San Felipe has three distinct route connections: a planned tour route starts in Orange Walk Town and includes the village; the planned Exploring Holpatin Tourism Trail reaches San Felipe; and a road route from Orange Walk to Lamanai passes through the village. These are different options for planning your trip—a tour with several village stops, a regional village trail and a road connection. If you are looking for accommodation, first consider whether San Felipe itself or a broader itinerary in Orange Walk District is your main focus. This lets you consider your choice of location and other destinations separately, rather than combining the different routes into a single excursion.

San Felipe between the village route and the trail

A planned tour route starts in Orange Walk Town and includes San Felipe as one of several stops. Other stops are Yo Creek, San Antonio, San Lazaro, Trinidad and August Pine Ridge. San Felipe is therefore part of a tour with several village stops, not the tour’s only destination. Beforehand, consider which of the places mentioned are important to your itinerary, and check whether a suitable tour is available for your travel dates.

The planned Exploring Holpatin Tourism Trail includes six rural villages in western Orange Walk District and stretches from Yo Creek to San Felipe. Unlike the individual tour route, it focuses on connecting several villages. This regional context helps place San Felipe within a broader theme. Which places you choose to include is a separate planning decision.

Church and road connection

San Felipe is home to San Miguel Arcangel Church, a specific cultural landmark in the village. Another point of reference is the road route from Orange Walk to Lamanai, which passes through San Felipe. This connection is distinct from the village route and the Holpatin Tourism Trail: it describes a road route between Orange Walk and Lamanai. If you plan to use it to get there, check current road conditions before setting out.

Orange Walk District as a broader context

The wider destination of Orange Walk District offers additional themes to consider when planning your trip. The Rio Bravo Conservation and Management Area there covers 254,000 acres and is a privately protected area. It is a distinct landscape feature within the district; this information does not describe San Felipe itself.

In Orange Walk Town, a self-guided Heritage Trail takes visitors to historic buildings, monuments and public spaces. It explores the city’s development from a small village on the New River into an important urban center. Visitors who want to include history in Orange Walk Town alongside a focus on rural villages will find another way to explore the region there. In Orange Walk, visitors can also eat tacos at the market or dine in cafés.

Lamanai is another option in Orange Walk District. From Orange Walk, take a boat along the New River to the Maya temples. Lamanai is open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., including Sundays, public holidays and bank holidays. The last tour of the day takes place one hour before closing. Check the opening hours and the time of the last tour before you travel. This lets you plan the excursion as a separate activity without confusing it with the routes through San Felipe.

Choose accommodation based on your itinerary

When looking for a holiday rental in San Felipe, it helps to decide on your main focus first. Would you like your trip to focus mainly on the village and its place in the rural routes, or would you also like to include destinations in Orange Walk District? Plan the tour package, village trail, road route to Lamanai and excursions in Orange Walk Town as separate parts of your itinerary.
