In Hirschegg, historical themes meet trails along the Breitach and activities for cycling and play. The Kreuzkirche, old houses and barns, and a war memorial chapel built in 1935 provide tangible points of reference for the village’s history. Outdoors, options range from a walking trail with panoramic views to a pump track and mountain bike route. This lets you explore the village through its culture, landscape or outdoor activities, without committing to a set itinerary.
Culture and Architectural History
The Kreuzkirche in Hirschegg was built in 1953 as the first and only Protestant mountain church in the Kleinwalsertal. Its year of construction and this unique status give the village’s history a clear religious dimension.
The Walser Cultural Trail: Hirschegg Village Loop tells the centuries-old history of old houses, barns and other historical landmarks. Information boards and an Outdooractive audio guide provide explanations. The Hirschegg Cultural Trail ends at a war memorial chapel dating from 1935. The two buildings were constructed eighteen years apart: the chapel in 1935 and the Kreuzkirche in 1953. The chapel is the final stop on the Hirschegg Cultural Trail; the Kreuzkirche is the first and only Protestant mountain church in the Kleinwalsertal.
The Historical ArchiTour Kleinwalsertal / Mittelberg comprises historical village walks to selected examples of Kleinwalsertal architectural heritage. Former village inns are the main focus. As a regional offering, it broadens the perspective on architectural heritage beyond individual village trails. The Walser Cultural Trail presents the history of old houses and barns; the ArchiTour focuses on former village inns.

At the Au sports ground, the Hirschegg pump track offers a free-to-use circuit for bicycles, scooters and inline skates. Its seasonal use depends on snow-free conditions.
A mountain bike route starts at the Walserhaus in Hirschegg, heads into the Schwarzwassertal and ends back at the starting point. Alongside the circuit at the sports ground, this offers the choice of a route with a named destination area and a return to the start.
