Eight cycling routes, paths to churches and a castle, a panorama of the Trattnachtal valley and culture at the KulturCafe give Pichl bei Wels plenty of different ways to explore. When planning your visit, it is worth considering what you would like to focus on: cycling, religious history, scenery or cultural events. Each route description highlights different landmarks, while art and events at the KulturCafe provide a separate cultural focus.

Cycling and culture

For cycling, there is a cycling map of the surrounding area and eight circular routes around Pichl. The map and route suggestions offer a practical starting point if you would like to explore the area by bike. Choosing one of the eight routes is a separate planning step; the KulturCafe and the paths to churches or viewpoints offer other thematic highlights. This lets you treat the cycling options as a distinct part of your stay rather than combining different interests into a single tour.

Artists can exhibit their work at the KulturCafe Pichl. Concerts and cultural exchange also take place there. Exhibitions and events offer different ways to experience the KulturCafe. Individual events may change, so if you are planning your visit around a particular concert or other event, it is best to check the current schedule in advance.

The Way of St. James and St. Jakob Church

The Way of St. James continues along meadow and forest paths to St. Jakob Church. The church regularly attracts groups of pilgrims, giving the route a recurring religious connection. The church’s history can also be linked to a specific detail: from 1602, the lords of Etzelsdorf and Haiding were buried in its crypt.

If you would like to see the inside of the church, the Jakobsbauer family is happy to open its doors to people wishing to admire this “treasure.” Visits are arranged through the family, so it is best to ask in advance whether the church can be opened.

The Way of St. James starts at the commuter parking lot by the Geisensheim volunteer fire brigade, right next to the motorway exit, and continues to St. Jakob Church. The route description thus includes both a named starting point and a connection to the church.

Trails with different landmarks

The Hubertusweg passes Etzelsdorf Castle and loops back to Pichl. The Irrachhöhenweg passes St. Peter’s Church. The Panoramaweg focuses on the scenery: as far as the Pühringerkapelle, it offers magnificent views of the Trattnachtal valley. You can choose a route based on its landmarks: a castle, a church or a valley panorama.

In Hochwimm, roadside display boards feature artists from the surrounding area. A panoramic map also names the mountains you can see clearly on days with good visibility. The boards offer an artistic point of interest, while the map helps you identify the visible mountains by name. If you are mainly looking for scenery and distant views, this offers a different focus from trails associated with churches and a castle.

Pichl bei Wels offers several ways to explore: cycling routes, trails with clearly named destinations, viewpoints and cultural activities. You can decide which ones should shape your stay based on your interests. If you plan to visit St. Jakob, it is advisable to contact the Jakobsbauer family in advance; for a particular cultural event, check the current schedule.
