Sankt Konrad offers hikes of varying distances and character: from an easy panoramic trail suitable for strollers to the 17.9-kilometer Laudachsee circuit. A themed trail, a sculpture, the parish church and a local tradition add to the landscape experiences. You can tailor your stay to whether you are looking for a shorter hike, expansive views or cultural themes.

Hiking: Compare trail length and character

The Small Panorama Trail and the Large Panorama Trail both begin at the parking lot by the St. Konrad swimming lake. Both are easy hikes and suitable for strollers. At 4.6 kilometers, the Small Panorama Trail is the shorter option; the Large Panorama Trail is 7 kilometers long. The main difference between the two trails is their length, while their stated difficulty and suitability for strollers are the same.

The 7.2-kilometer Hacklberg Höhenweg also begins at the parking lot by the lake. As a high-altitude hike, it offers a different experience from the panoramic trails, with views of the mountains of the Almtal and the Totes Gebirge. At 7.2 kilometers, it is only slightly longer than the Large Panorama Trail. Comparing the hikes by length gives you several options starting from the same point, while also allowing you to take each trail’s character into account.

The Reisenberg circular trail is 5.8 kilometers long and begins at the Kranichsteg inn. It is known as a sunny-side circuit and offers views of the Traunstein. Its length falls between those of the two panoramic trails; its starting point and the named character of the circuit also set it apart from the routes by the lake.

The 17.9-kilometer Laudachsee circuit is considerably longer. It runs from the parking lot at the St. Konrad swimming lake via Schrattenau to Laudachsee and back. This makes it a longer route option compared with the shorter hikes, which also have stated distances. To hike to Steineck, you can start in Sankt Konrad at the St. Konrad DĂĽrnberg bus stop or at the parking lot beside the B 120. The parking lot by the lake is another possible starting point; the Steineck mountain hike offers sweeping panoramic views as far as the MĂĽhlviertel. Route details may change, so check current conditions before setting out.

Cultural trail, art and local tradition

The “Global Home” cultural trail is a themed trail in Sankt Konrad and is associated with the 2024 European Capital of Culture project. It includes a sculpture by Herbert Egger in the shape of a house made of wooden slats. Plants and animals can make their home in this house. The idea thus incorporates the surroundings into the artwork and offers a different focus from the hikes through the landscape.

There was also a cultural feature on the 7-Brücken-Weg between the swimming lake and Gasthof Silbermair: starting on June 21, 2024, photographs from “Eyes as big as Plates” by Karoline Hjorth and Riita Ikonen were displayed there. The project included four portraits of people from Sankt Konrad and four of people from distant countries. The participants were transformed into figures at locations of their own choosing, blending into the surroundings.

The parish church of St. Konrad dates back in its core to the Late Gothic period. It is open daily; confirm access locally before your visit. In the destination’s surrounding area, above St. Konrad in Schrattenau, are the Rüpelfelder. According to local tradition, they are considered evidence of an early indigenous population. Local tradition and the church building thus add further insights into Sankt Konrad alongside its hiking and art themes.
