If you are looking for nature and culture in Munderfing, two themes stand out: trails and climate topics in the Kobernaußerwald, as well as church art and historic memorial sites. Munderfing lies on the edge of the forest, which is considered Europe's largest contiguous forest area.

Forest Trails, Climate and Wind Farm

There are numerous well-signposted hiking and cycling trails around Munderfing in the Kobernaußerwald. Alongside these trails, the Climate & Energy themed trail offers a distinct focus. It is an educational trail in the Kobernaußerwald and runs from Parz to the Munderfing wind farm. Along the way, it explores the use of renewable energy and the fundamentals of climate and climate change.

At the Munderfing wind farm, a viewpoint offers a direct view of the wind turbines. The educational trail and viewpoint thus offer different ways to engage with related topics: the trail explains energy and climate issues, while the viewpoint offers a direct look at the wind turbines.

Another route-related feature is the VIA NOVA: a 14.1-kilometre section connects Munderfing with Maria Schmolln. Unlike the themed trail, which runs from Parz to the wind farm and focuses on climate and energy, this route is defined by its length and Maria Schmolln as its destination. This allows two different options to be compared when planning: an educational trail with explanatory content and a route linking two places over a specified distance.

Church Art and Historic Traces

The Roman Catholic parish church in Munderfing has a 44-metre-high Baroque onion dome tower. An onion dome is a tower roof with a bulbous, curved shape. Inside the church, the side altar and statues are by Meinrad Guggenbichler. Architecture and sculpture are thus showcased side by side.

The Kerscher Chapel also offers art-historical details: its Baroque vault is decorated with acanthus stucco and frescoes depicting the bloodshed of Christ. Acanthus is a leaf motif that appears here as a stucco ornament. The ornate altar was probably created in 1714 by Meinrad Guggenbichler, a sculptor from Mondsee. His name thus appears at two different church sites: in the parish church, in connection with the side altar and statues, and in the Kerscher Chapel, in connection with the altar, which was probably created in 1714.

The branch church of Valentinhaft was first mentioned in a document in 1179. This early mention provides a different historical focus from the artworks described in the parish church and the Kerscher Chapel: here, the emphasis is on a specific date in local history.

Another memorial is the plague cross at the foot of Haidberg on Jeginger Straße. It commemorates the end of the plague of 1712 to 1714. Together with the churches and chapel, it is among the historic sites that bring Munderfing's religious art and commemorative culture to life.
