At Ligistberg, you can discover hiking trails, cultural sites and regional products from a range of different perspectives. The short Celtic Trail leads up to Ligistberg and the 805-metre-high Wartenstein; Schilcher wine from Ligist grows on the southern slopes of Ligistberg. Together with the Panorama Trail and the cultural offerings, this gives you a range of options to choose from based on landscape, history or regional products.

Hiking trails with different points of interest

The short Celtic Trail leads up to Ligistberg and the 805-metre-high Wartenstein. The long Celtic Trail offers views of Ligistberg and Wartenstein and leads into the vineyards. The two trails therefore differ both in length and in the landscapes they take you through: the long Celtic Trail adds views and a route through the vineyards.

The Ligist Panorama Trail starts at Ligist’s market square, passes the castle ruins on the way to Wartenstein, and returns to the market square. Along the way, it passes fields, forests and orchards. If you want to plan a circular route with a clear starting point and return destination, the Panorama Trail begins and ends at the market square.

The Ligist Birdsong Trail offers a distinct focus on nature: an information board introduces the songbirds native to the castle forest. When choosing a trail, you can therefore weigh up views and landscapes on the one hand against a themed exploration of native birds on the other.

Celtic times, museum and ruins

The Ligist Celtic House showcases the living conditions of the Celts who settled on Dietenberg around 100 BC, before the Romans arrived in Noricum. A guided tour takes about 45 minutes; admission is by voluntary donation. Check the visitor arrangements in advance before making firm plans for your visit.

The Ligist Museum is housed in seven rooms of a 250-year-old former blacksmith’s house. Lubgast Ruins, also known as Ligist Ruins, were built around 1200; a virtual tour is available. The cultural programme thus brings together sites from different periods: the Celts around 100 BC, the construction of the ruins around 1200, and the blacksmith’s house, which is about 250 years old.

Wine, honey and traditional wine taverns

Schilcher wine from Ligist grows on the southern slopes of Ligistberg. The vineyards of Schilcher Vineyard Haas are located on the south-facing slope of Ligistberg. The Blauer Wildbacher grape ripens there and is then made into Schilcher wine. Schilcher wine is also sold directly from the farm at Schilcher Vineyard Haas. Check the sales arrangements before visiting.

At Rosenzopf Beekeeping, expert guided tours of the production rooms are available by prior arrangement. You can learn about honey production, followed by a tasting of the producer’s own products. Buschenschank Zach serves homemade snacks, juices and wine. Buschenschank Dokter offers homemade specialities made from its own produce. The regional offerings thus range from an insight into honey production to specific food and drink options.
