The final section of the Lois Steiner Trail leads through the forest to the reading garden by the church in Sankt Blasen. Along the way, there are views towards Kalkberg, MĂĽhlsteinboden and Zirbitzkogel. Together, the destination and the directions of the views give the trail a clear connection to the landscape.

Forest Trails and Landscape

The “Ice Age – The Glacier in a Dead End” circular trail runs through the area between St. Blasen and the Thajagraben and can be reached by public transport. If you are travelling by public transport, check the timetables for the day of your visit separately. The “Around Roßeck” route passes through the forest by the disused arsenic mine. If you are looking for a forest trail that also has a connection to former mining, you can consider this route.

The trails have different highlights: on the Lois Steiner Trail, the views and the reading garden are important landmarks; on the Ice Age circular trail, you can take into account its location between St. Blasen and the Thajagraben, as well as its accessibility by public transport.

Church and Cultural Heritage

The Catholic branch church of St. Blaise and Hinterbach Cemetery in the cadastral area of St. Blasen are protected monuments. St. Blaise Church has been documented since 1126; the present-day building was constructed between 1718 and 1721. The dates mark different points in time: 1126 refers to the church’s first documented mention, while 1718 to 1721 refers to the construction of the present-day building. This distinguishes the long history of the church site from the construction period of the present-day building.

Cycling Routes and Other Stages

The MĂĽhlsteinboden singletrack ends in the village of St. Blasen in the municipality of St. Lambrecht. It is considered technically challenging and is aimed at advanced mountain bikers. The St. Blasen cycle route takes a different course: it runs from St. Lambrecht via Heiligenstadt to St. Blasen and returns to the starting point along the cycle path. This gives you a choice between a technically challenging trail and a route with named places and a return leg.

The MĂĽhlsteinboden Tour runs via Heiligenstadt to St. Blasen, then climbs to MĂĽhlsteinboden along a series of hairpin bends. There, it reaches a small pilgrimage chapel where you can take a break. The climb and the opportunity to rest at the chapel provide this route with its own landmarks.

The stages of Via Natura can also be distinguished by their starting and finishing points: the second stage runs from St. Lambrecht to St. Blasen, while the third starts in Sankt Blasen. Thus, the village is the destination for the second stage and the starting point for the third. A public car park is available at Gasthof Kirchmoar for the third Via Natura stage. Check the current parking regulations before travelling.

Nature and Local Delights

Podolerteich, a forest pond in Zirbitzkogel-Grebenzen Nature Park at an altitude of 1,050 metres, is located near Sankt Blasen. It adds a natural point of interest in the surrounding area to the trails in the village.
