The Heiligengeistklamm Gorge begins at the Spitzmühle Mill and leads to a pilgrimage church in Slovenia. Together with the rebuilt demonstration watermill and the wine and traditional wine tavern offerings, it provides a range of nature, culture and culinary experiences for a stay in Schloßberg.

Heiligengeistklamm Gorge, Mill and Hiking Trail

The Heiligengeistklamm Gorge leads from the Spitzmühle Mill near Schloßberg to the church of Sveti Duh na Ostrem Vrhu, also known as Heiligengeist am Osterberg, in Selnica ob Dravi, Slovenia. It is around three kilometres long, with rocky sections and small waterfalls among its features. The gorge is a designated landscape protection area. The length of around three kilometres refers to the gorge; the Kleeblattwanderweg No. 1 is a separate route that leads to Schlossberg, crosses the gorge and reaches the church.

The Spitzmühle Mill is a demonstration watermill rebuilt according to old plans and serves as the starting point for the Heiligengeistklamm Gorge. It can be viewed from the outside at any time. Its reconstruction according to old plans gives the mill a distinct historical connection; at the same time, it is a landmark for the start of the nature trail.

The Kleeblattwanderweg No. 1 leads to Schlossberg, crosses the Heiligengeistklamm Gorge and reaches the pilgrimage church of Heiligengeist am Osterberg. Parking is available for this route at the former Schlossberg municipal office and at the Spitzmühle Mill. The route and the gorge are described differently: the gorge leads from the Spitzmühle Mill to the church, while the hiking trail also names Schlossberg as a destination.

Culture and Views

In the vestibule of the chapel at Trautenburg Castle, a memorial plaque installed in 1999 commemorates the three people killed in the bombing of 17 November 1944. The place, occasion, date and number of victims give this memorial a specific historical significance.

The 23-metre-high Schlossbergwarte observation tower on Montikogel offers views of the hill country and neighbouring Slovenia. It is temporarily closed for renovation work. This is an important distinction when planning your visit: the Spitzmühle Mill can be viewed from the outside at any time, while the tower is closed.

Farm Products, Wine and Traditional Wine Taverns

Skerget's farm shop offers products from the farm and its own production, including pumpkin seed oil, cured meats, homemade liqueurs and fine spirits. Tastings of selected products are available. This combines products made on the farm with the opportunity to sample some of them.

At the spitzyPeitler winery in the Schlossberg countryside, tastings of handcrafted wines are offered. Tasting arrangements and opening periods may change; please confirm both before your visit.

Please order in advance if you plan to have a snack at the Buschenschank Strohmeier vlg. Teichbauer. The establishment also offers homemade specialities. Confirm your advance order beforehand, as this requirement may change.

The Buschenschank Stelzl on Hirritschberg offers culinary specialities made in-house; a glass of South Styrian wine is recommended with your meal. As opening periods may change, check in advance whether a visit suits your travel dates.

The culinary offerings vary by occasion: the farm shop focuses on its own produce and the option of a tasting, while the winery offers handcrafted wines. The Buschenschänke serve homemade specialities; at Strohmeier, advance ordering is part of planning a snack, while Stelzl recommends South Styrian wine with a meal.
