Zirknitz offers a variety of ways to shape your stay: a hilly trail through woods and meadows, regional produce and a historic site with clearly documented dates. The St. Stefaner Orchard Trail passes apple trees and reaches Zirknitz. There are also experiences involving beer, honey and traditional Buschenschank cuisine. When planning your stay, consider whether a tour, individual food and drink experiences or culture should take centre stage for you.
Orchard Trails and Tours
The St. Stefaner Orchard Trail leads through woods and meadows, past apple trees, and then reaches Zirknitz. From there, the route runs via Mitterzirknitz to Puxhof. Its hilly terrain and pleasant alternation between woodland and meadow shape the trail. Seven stops provide opportunities to take a break and give the tour several natural stopping points.
Another tour with a clearly specified duration is the GenussSchilchern DA - Zirknitz. It is of moderate difficulty, 16.1 kilometres long and takes five hours. It starts in Sankt Stefan ob Stainz; the information that the tour is accessible by public transport is intended only as a rough guide. With the stated duration, it takes up a substantial block of time and works well as the main focus of a day’s plans. The routes therefore differ not only in their scenery, but also in the known time commitment for the GenussSchilchern DA - Zirknitz.
Beer, Honey and Buschenschank Cuisine
The St. Stefaner private brewery at Hausmi Hof has been brewing its own beer since September 2012 and offers tours and tastings by prior arrangement by phone. Its range includes the special “Reinischkogler Bier”. If you would like to try it, check its current availability before you arrive.
The Klug beekeeping operation offers tastings of honey varieties from the Schilcherland. It also has numerous award-winning honeys from the region. This puts a variety of regional products in the spotlight: beer from the private brewery and honey from the beekeeping operation. The tasting options add a culinary touch to your stay without requiring you to plan a tour.
At the Der Krainerhof Buschenschank, you can enjoy a Styrian Buschenschank snack featuring homemade meat and a variety of salads. There are also fruit juices made on site. Krainerhof also has a petting zoo and a playground for children. So, alongside the snack, you will find two specific activities for children at this location.
History and Other Experiences
The Zirknitzberg Marian Chapel was built between 1819 and 1823. Its construction period gives the historical aspect a specific timeframe and sets it apart from the tours and regional tastings. This contrast may help you choose: the chapel offers a historical connection, while the orchard trail and food and drink experiences appeal to other interests.
Riding lessons are available at the Stricker Western riding centre, and rides are offered on request. Arrange the experiences you would like in advance. Together with the moderately challenging, five-hour tour and the orchard trail, this gives you a choice of different activities with varying time commitments and requirements. You can then decide whether you would rather spend your time on a longer tour, a meal, a tasting or a riding experience.
