Gumping can be explored via a range of trail and nature destinations. One route crosses the Saalach on the Scheffsnother Bridge; another leads into the district via the Moosbach footbridge. Nearby in the municipality are a gorge, a cave and a themed hiking trail; the surrounding area also has a gorge with waterfalls and a return route through the Gumpinger Moos. When planning, you can distinguish these destinations by trail type, stated length and destination.

Trails to Gumping and back to Lofer

The Scheffsnoth – Rafting Center – Gumping trail crosses the Saalach on the Scheffsnother Bridge. On this route, a meadow path leads to Gumping between the rafting center and the heating plant. The Kreuzfeld – Moosbach footbridge – Gumping trail reaches the district of Gumping along a quiet path after crossing the Moosbach. The two trail descriptions therefore differ in their crossings: one crosses the Saalach on a bridge, while the other crosses the Moosbach and then continues along a quiet path.

A walking and cycling path leads via Gumping and Kreuzfeld back to Lofer. So, in addition to trails leading to Gumping, there is also a described return route to Lofer and an option for pedestrians and cyclists.

Gorge, Cave and Adventure Trail

The Vorderkaser Gorge is near Gumping in the municipality, around 400 m long and up to 80 m deep. The Lamprecht Cave is also nearby. In the visitor area, safe paths, stairs and footbridges lead about 600 m into the cave. Along the way, you reach several tunnels and a large chamber; the elevation difference is 70 m. The figures describe different measurements: for the gorge, length and depth; for the cave, the distance into the mountain and the elevation difference.

The Stone Age Adventure Trail is a hiking trail about 2 km long with six play stations. It therefore offers a different kind of route from the trail through the cave’s visitor area or the spatial dimensions described for the gorge. When choosing, you can distinguish between a themed trail with stations and two nature destinations, each with its own spatial characteristics.

The Strohwollner Gorge near Gumping can be visited free of charge; waterfalls cascade down the mountains there. Another route description follows a walking trail from St. Martin bei Lofer to Lofer and, on the return, through the Gumpinger Moos. There are many small hay barns there. The gorge and its waterfalls, and the path through the moor, offer distinctive features for different kinds of hikes.

Choose hikes by distance

The Gumping – Sankt Martin – Lofer route is described as a moderately difficult hike covering 10 km, with a walking time of about 2 to 2.5 hours. Distance and duration may vary depending on conditions. By comparison, the Stone Age Adventure Trail is much shorter at about 2 km; it has six play stations. This comparison helps you choose between a longer hike with a stated walking time and a shorter trail with themed stations.

If you are looking for a hotel for your stay in Gumping, you can plan your day around these differences: a hike with a stated walking time, the adventure trail or a nature destination nearby in the municipality.
