A nature forest reserve covering about 10 hectares, more than 300 marked hiking trails, and tours of many different kinds make Lammertal an especially rewarding place to explore. Whether you want to discover the forest and individual natural highlights or plan a hiking or cycling tour, the specific routes and their starting points offer different reference points for planning your trip.
Lammertaler Urwald and Lammertaler Wächter
Lammertaler Urwald is a nature forest reserve in a largely unspoiled setting. Fir, spruce, beech, and larch trees characterize the woodland, which covers about 10 hectares. The reserve is therefore a forest area with several tree species.
One particular tree is the focus of the “Lammertaler Wächter”: The fir is about 48 metres tall and around 300 years old. The forest reserve and the tree offer different points of interest—one is an area with various tree species, the other is notable for the size and approximate age of a single tree.
Hiking Trails and Circular Routes
Lammertal lies directly at the foot of the Tennengebirge mountains. Its well-signposted trails serve as starting points for high-alpine tours and other hikes. Lammertal has more than 300 marked hiking trails.
The “Almengenusstour” starts at the Lammertaler Hof car park in the Lammertal district and passes the Lammertal fish ponds near the source of the Lammer. The source of the Lammer can also be circled on the Lammertaler circular route. Those who choose the Weg der Naturwunder connect the centre of Sankt Martin am Tennengebirge with the Lammertal district.
Fishing is possible at the Lammertal fish ponds; conditions of use may vary by season. The ponds also feature on the Almengenusstour, which passes by them. If you plan to include hiking and fishing in your itinerary, take the applicable conditions for your visit dates into account.
Cycling and Water Experiences
The “Salzburger Almentour” is a three-day mountain biking circuit from Lammertal to the Salzkammergut. It covers 147 kilometres in total and includes 4,170 metres of elevation gain. The 13.0-kilometre “Panorama-Route” in Sankt Martin am Tennengebirge is on a different scale: It starts there, follows the road towards Lungötz, and then runs along the Lammer.
White-water trips through narrow gorges and wild, romantic ravines are offered in Lammertal. A white-water trip on the Lammer travels downstream; participants wear a wetsuit, helmet, neoprene shoes, and fins. Before booking, check current providers and availability; you should also check the applicable safety requirements separately.
Regional Food and Choosing Accommodation
The “Almengenusstour” offers many cheese specialities from Sennerin Marianne’s own organic farm dairy. The hut’s opening season may vary. This also lets you choose the tour based on culinary interests without losing sight of its starting point or route.
Regular bus and train services connect Lammertal in all directions; local companies offer experience trips. Check specific departures and timetables separately. When looking for a holiday apartment, it helps to first decide which activities you want to shape your stay. Then compare the specific location of each option with the starting points of your planned tours.
