At the protected Seewaldsee moor lake, rich flora and fauna are defining features; at Trattberg, options range from leisurely alpine pasture walks to circular tours across broad ridgelines. There are also chapels, a mill and insights into the region’s everyday history. When looking for a holiday apartment in Taugl, you can consider whether hiking, scenery or culture should play a greater part in your stay.

Moor Lake, Gorges and Nature Trails

Seewaldsee is a protected moor lake known for its rich flora and fauna. On the right-hand side of the lake, a well-maintained forest track is suitable for families with pushchairs and wheelchair users. Check the current conditions before your visit.

In the Tauglboden area, the Tauglbach stream flows through gorges and past small waterfalls on its way into the valley. A hiking trail to the Strubklamm gorge offers a free opportunity to experience the natural spectacle there. The Gletscherschliff natural monument is in the Taugl district, on the road from Bad Vigaun to St. Koloman. This brings a variety of landscapes into view: a moor lake, gorges, waterfalls and a natural monument alongside the road.

Hiking at Trattberg

The alpine pasture area at Trattberg is reached via the scenic, toll road known as the Trattberg Panorama Road. Check the toll conditions before setting off. The hiking trails at Trattberg range from leisurely walks on alpine pastures to scenic circular tours across broad ridgelines. For those looking for a specific time estimate for planning: a children’s hike from the Grundbichlalm restaurant through Tauglboden to the Bergalm takes about one hour. The duration depends on conditions and walking pace.

The TG21 St. Koloman: Bergalm Tour also initially descends towards Tauglboden and then continues from the Grundbichlalm to the Bergalm along a gravel forest road. The Feuchter Keller nature show cave is near the car park at the end of the Trattberg Panorama Road. The cave is open to visitors seasonally; check current visiting options in advance. Trail conditions may vary with the seasons.

Chapels, a Mill and Regional History

The Taugler dialect Stations of the Cross is a three-kilometre circular route with five chapels. Another signposted hike leads to Wilhelmskapelle at the foot of the Wilhelmswand. It is one of Salzburg’s oldest religious buildings and is considered a well-known place of spiritual energy. These routes combine specific buildings with a marked way to one of the area’s special religious sites.

At the St. Koloman local history museum, farming tools, school supplies, rocks and models offer insights into everyday life in the region. The Branterer Mill is used for demonstrations and is generally open to interested visitors. Its use is a good reason to check access arrangements in advance. The mill was probably built in the 18th century.

Shop and Dine Locally

Taugler Körberl is a local collective selling regionally produced goods and enables visitors to buy directly from producers. Before travelling, check how participation and collection are organised. In the centre of St. Koloman, Tauglerei serves internationally inspired dishes made with regional ingredients. As this is a current restaurant business, check visiting options before you arrive.

There are several options to focus your excursions on: the circular route and chapels, hikes to the Bergalm, nature at Seewaldsee, or insights into history and regional cuisine.
