The NaturWaldWeg stage from Göstling to Hollenstein passes through the district of Strohmarkt; the Schusterhaus “Niederbach” has a four-hundred-year history. Alongside trails through the countryside, the focus is also on local architectural history and the long-term use of a historic house. Cycling and winter sports are other possible activities in Göstling.

Hiking around Strohmarkt

On the NaturWaldWeg stage from Göstling to Hollenstein, the village road meets the B 25, the Erlauftalstraße, in the district of Strohmarkt. The stage follows paved roads, forest roads, woodland trails and alpine pastures. The surface changes along the route. If you choose this trail, plan according to the route described and check local trail conditions before setting out.

Another route option leads from Strohmarkt near Göstling to the buildings of the Schwölleckau-Alm in about 30 minutes. The partly paved trail ends at an elevation of 800 metres. Allow about 30 minutes to walk to the alpine hut and check current trail conditions before setting out.

Local history and cultural landscape

The Schusterhaus “Niederbach” is located at Strohmarkt No. 2 and has a four-hundred-year history. It has been preserved and is maintained and inhabited as a home by the Eibner family.

The Mendlingtal Adventure World offers another perspective on history and landscape. The themed trail “Auf dem Holzweg” presents the history of woodcutters, charcoal burners and blacksmiths’ apprentices. The surrounding area includes gorges, winding streams and diverse plant life. Opening arrangements vary by season; check the current visitor conditions before your visit.

Cycling and skiing in Göstling

The 111-kilometre Ybbstal Cycle Route passes through Göstling an der Ybbs and connects the Danube with Lake Lunzer See. This lets you plan a cycling trip around a route with two clearly named endpoints. You do not need to plan the entire route as a single day’s ride: the cycle route is a way to include Göstling in a longer tour. Check the latest route information before setting off.

For winter sports, the Hochkar ski area lies in the alpine region of Göstling. It has 19 kilometres of pistes at elevations between 1,380 and 1,800 metres. Beginners, experts and freeriders can all ski there. Operating conditions vary by season. Check current conditions before planning a day of skiing.

Stanglwirt Inn

The Stanglwirt Inn has a rustic dining room with a tiled stove. One restriction is important when planning a meal: the restaurant is open only to overnight guests and regular customers. If you would like to eat there, confirm access directly in advance. If the inn is an option for your overnight stay, also check current availability rather than assuming it.

These options offer different ways to choose a focus: a hike along the described route, a longer cycling route through Göstling, winter sports at Hochkar or cultural history in the Mendlingtal. The Schusterhaus adds a local historical connection to the mix.
