For a short stay in Ober-Grafendorf, cycling linked to rail travel, Ebersdorf Lake and cultural attractions offer different points of interest. When planning your trip, you can first decide whether the cycle route, time by the water, or church and railway history should be the main focus. This also makes it easier to narrow down your search for a suitable holiday apartment.

Cycling and the Mariazell Railway

From Ober-Grafendorf to Loich, the Pielach Valley Cycle Route follows the Mariazell Railway; this section lets you combine cycling and rail travel. In the local area, the cycle route runs from Ebersdorf along the Pielach to the underpass at the Pielach Bridge in Ober-Grafendorf. The “Around Ober-Grafendorf” cycling tour can be reached from St. Pölten or from the direction of Mariazell on the Mariazell Railway, which carries bicycles. This identifies both a specific section of the cycle route and an option for travelling to a tour. If you would like to combine cycling and rail travel, you can consider this information together when planning.

Swimming and activities at Ebersdorf Lake

The beach volleyball and football courts at Ebersdorf Lake are free to use. The water quality is very good, and the lake is suitable for swimming and cooling off. The Jungle Ropes Course is on the north shore, directly beside the cycle route, and offers two high ropes courses, each with ten stations of varying difficulty. There are also three zip lines, one of which runs 70 metres over the lake. Advance booking by phone is required for visits. The course operates seasonally from March to November; check the visiting conditions in advance before making it a firm part of your plans. This allows you to consider activities at the lake and the cycle route as separate priorities without having to combine them into a fixed day’s itinerary.

Church architecture, a castle and railway history

Ober-Grafendorf Parish Church is a three-aisled Gothic basilica with pillars, dating from the 14th century. Its Baroque high altar is made of red Türnitz marble; the altarpiece dates from 1756 and was created by the Baroque painter Daniel Gran. The building’s history and its furnishings thus offer different historical perspectives on the same church.

The Schloss-Fridau complex comprises Neuschloss, Altschloss, the chancellery building and the garden pavilion, and is currently privately owned. The Mh.6 Engine House offers a look at railway history, with historic Mariazell Railway vehicles, locomotives and freight cars on display. The Engine House is listed as being open seasonally from 1 May to 26 October, on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 1 pm to 5 pm. Check whether these hours are in effect before your visit.

Tours and regional specialities

In September 2026, tours at World of STYX in Ober-Grafendorf were available to book. They offered an insight into the production of natural cosmetics and included a tasting of handmade organic chocolate. Check in advance whether a tour can be booked for your preferred date.

At Mostheurigen Moderbacher, you can enjoy homemade specialities from Mostbaron Moderbacher in the tavern, winter garden or spacious garden. Opening days and hours are published separately; check them before planning your visit.

Choose your transport and accommodation to suit your interests

Ober-Grafendorf can be reached via the B39 and by Mariazell Railway. When choosing a holiday apartment, you can use your travel interests as a guide: the Pielach Valley Cycle Route combines cycling and rail travel, swimming and the ropes course are the main attractions at Ebersdorf Lake, and the parish church and Engine House offer different cultural themes. If you plan to visit the Jungle Ropes Course, the Engine House or the Mostheurigen, take into account the stated advance booking and opening requirements.
