Drasenhofen offers several ways to shape a stay: cycling routes, marked hiking trails and historic sites in the Weinviertel. If you are looking for a hotel in Drasenhofen, you can plan your trip around specific routes or the town’s history. The cycling options differ not only in their routes, but also in the information provided about their length and difficulty.

Cycling routes and tours around Drasenhofen

Drasenhofen’s cycling network is marked with a uniform numbering system used throughout Lower Austria and runs mostly away from roads. The Kamp-Thaya-March Cycle Route reaches Drasenhofen via cycle path no. 911. On the way back, it leads via cycle path no. 91 or no. 8 through Steinebrunn and back to the Kamp-Thaya-March Cycle Route.

For a longer tour, Der Veltliner is described as a moderately difficult day trip for recreational cyclists: the route is about 65 kilometres long and passes through Kleinschweinbarth. Welschriesling offers a different focus. It starts in Drasenhofen, follows cycle path no. 91 to Schrattenberg, continues into Czech territory and then returns to the starting point along the same cycle path. While an approximate distance and difficulty level are given for Der Veltliner, Welschriesling can be identified by its cross-border route.

Hiking and pilgrimage trails

Marked circular and long-distance hiking trails wind through gentle hills with vineyards and rolling fields, past old farmhouses and through idyllic cellar lanes. A specific starting point for a walk is the renovated Schatzkeller in Drasenhofen, where the Marterlrundgang begins. It leads up to the 337-metre-high Schweinbartherberg, also known as Südmährerberg. From there, the view extends to Mikulov Castle, far across South Moravia, into Slovakia and as far as Schneeberg.

Pilgrimage trails are also part of the regional offerings. Glaube in Stein is a trail about 33 kilometres long that connects Wilfersdorf, Drasenhofen and Mikulov. The Weinviertel Way of St. James also begins in Drasenhofen. The information about its length and the places it connects makes Glaube in Stein a clearly defined route; for the Way of St. James, the key connection to Drasenhofen is its starting point.

Cellar lane, churches and local history

At the northern entrance to Drasenhofen, the cellar lane comprises around 25 press houses and their cellar tunnels. It was restored with meticulous handwork, preserving the layout and the historic press houses. The parish church in Drasenhofen offers another glimpse into the town’s history: it is dedicated to Saint Vitus. Construction began in 1679 and was completed in 1687.

In Kleinschweinbarth stands the neo-Gothic parish church of Our Lady, dating from 1870. Its front façade features a late-Baroque sandstone statue of the Apostle Judas Thaddaeus, about 3.5 metres tall. Fünfkirchen Castle remains in the territory of Steinebrunn, although it lies more than a kilometre from the village. In Steinebrunn, only the ruins of the former brewery remain; no traces of the church survive.

Drasenhofen is also connected with the history of transport: at the beginning of the 18th century, the Kaiserstraße ran through the town and was already an important north–south route in Central Europe. The Traktorium Drasenhofen displays an extensive collection of vintage vehicles. Among the oldest tractors are two vehicles made by the Stock and Normag companies in 1934, as well as two Lanz Bulldogs from 1936. In Drasenhofen and the places mentioned, routes, architectural history and technical history stand side by side, though they need not be experienced in the same way.

Connection to the Weinviertel

Drasenhofen lies on the Weinviertel Wine Road, in the Veltliner Land section. Together with the cellar lanes and the routes described above, this connection shapes the cultural setting of a stay. When planning your trip, you can therefore choose between a focus on cycling tours, a hiking or pilgrimage route, or an interest in architectural and local history.
