Kottingburgstall combines a long history of settlement with the listed Hubertendorf Castle and several documented walking routes. Historic architecture, Kneipp treatments and different routes offer a range of ways to explore the area. When planning, it is worth taking a closer look at the routes: the Blindenmarkt Kneipp Trail heads towards Kottingburgstall; the Aichberg Trail runs to Kottingburgstall and from there back to the centre of Blindenmarkt.
Hubertendorf Castle: Architecture and History
Hubertendorf Castle, in the cadastral municipality of Kottingburgstall, is protected as a historic monument under a decision pursuant to Section 3. The castle is a three-storey building with three wings. The two terms convey different aspects of the building: “three-storey” describes the number of levels, while “three-winged” describes its layout. Together, they provide a brief overview of its height and form.
From 1782 to 1813, Georg Adam von Starhemberg had Hubertendorf Castle built using stones from the ruins of Karlsbach. This period places the construction in chronological context; the stones from Karlsbach also provide a specific link to the building materials used. The castle is set in a park-like floodplain woodland.
Kottingburgstall is an old farmstead dating from the 9th century. This date for the settlement belongs to a different historical timeframe from the construction of the castle between 1782 and 1813: it relates to the history of the settlement, not to the building of the castle. This distinguishes the early history of the settlement from the dated history of the castle.
Walking Routes and Kneipp Facilities
The Blindenmarkt Kneipp Trail is designated as a hiking trail. It starts at the local Raiffeisenbank, passes through the town centre towards Kottingburgstall, and continues to a water basin for Kneipp treatments in Harland. An informative instruction board stands by the basin. The route also includes a well-maintained herb garden and a shady place to rest. The trail description thus combines a Kneipp station with a garden and a spot to relax.
The Aichberg Trail follows a different route: it passes via Windlucke and the Burgstaller Kogel to Kottingburgstall, then returns from there to the centre of Blindenmarkt. This return journey is part of the route described for the Aichberg Trail. For the Kneipp Trail, key points include its start at the Raiffeisenbank, its route through the town centre and the Kneipp stations. If you are choosing between the trails, you can first consider which route is most relevant to your exploration.
In the Blindenmarkt area, the paths around the three bathing lakes at the Blindenmarkt bathing lakes invite you to go for walks, cycle and skateboard. This offers a different range of activities from the Kneipp Trail: here, the focus is on paths around the lakes and various ways to get active, while the Kneipp Trail is a designated hiking route with a Kneipp focus.
