At the Holzmühlteich, swimming, play and sports facilities come together; the trails offer different features, with interactive stations, views and cycling. These differences give you several practical ways to plan your visit to Lauterbach: you can focus on the water, trail stations, views across the town or a cycling route.
Holzmühlteich: Swimming, Play and Sports
The Holzmühlteich is a small swimming pond and invites you to swim on hot days. Changing rooms and showers are available by the pond. A children's playground, a beach volleyball court and a streetball court complete the facilities. This brings water, play and two ball sports together in one place. If you want to factor in different activities when planning, you can consider the pond not only as a swimming destination but also in terms of its playground and sports courts. The Holzmühlteich is just a few minutes' walk from Moorheilbad Harbach.
Trails with Different Points of Interest
The Hoidaweg route starts and ends at the Steinbrunnerhof in Lauterbach. The trail features various stations with many interactive games; there is also a small exhibition in the “LEBENsWELT - Geschichte und Begegnung” (World of Life – History and Encounters) wooden hut. Its shared start and end point, stations and exhibition give the trail clear points of reference. If you are choosing a trail based on these kinds of features, the Hoidaweg offers this combination.
The Ohynaweg No. 16 has different points of interest. On the return, it passes through the village of Lauterbach; it also leads to the “Hoch über Lauterbach” (High Above Lauterbach) viewpoint, where you can look out over the town. These two details highlight different features of the route: the passage through Lauterbach on the return and the view over the town from the viewpoint.
The Via Verde Nebelstein also passes through Lauterbach. As a cycling route, it adds a different kind of activity to the trail options. The comparison brings together the Hoidaweg’s interactive stations and exhibition, the Ohynaweg’s passage through the village and viewpoint, and cycling on the Via Verde. This makes it easier to choose based on whether you prefer a trail for its features, views over Lauterbach or a cycling route.
Culture and History
The Waldviertel jewellery workshop, also known as Kristallmanufaktur Haumer, has been a family business since 1850. Visitors can view and purchase souvenirs made of glass and stone there. This adds another specific point of interest to the trails and pond: you can browse the souvenirs or consider buying something.
Lauterbach Chapel was opened to the public in 2003. If you would like to include the chapel in your plans today, it is best to check the current visiting arrangements in advance.
