The partisan memorial at the Peršmanhof, the Union Church at Luschasattel, and hiking on the Petzen give Koprein Petzen a variety of cultural and outdoor attractions. When planning your trip, two clear differences are especially important: the hikes are listed as taking about three or four hours, and activities on the Petzen vary with the seasons. This makes it easy to choose whether to focus your getaway on history, high-altitude trails, or seasonal mountain sports. When looking for accommodation, it may help to decide first on your preferred focus and how much time you have.

Places of Remembrance at the Peršmanhof

At the Peršmanhof, eleven members of the Sadovnik and Kogoj families were shot by members of SS and Police Regiment 13 on 25 April 1945. In front of the Peršmanhof Museum stands a partisan memorial: the group of figures, erected in 1983, depicts three partisans advancing forward—two men and a woman. Another partisan memorial is located at Koprein Petzen 3 in Eisenkappel-Vellach. The Austrian register of monuments dated 19 June 2026 lists it as a protected monument. A museum invitation from 2024 described the commemorative ceremony as an annual event dedicated to active remembrance and learning.

Union Church at Luschasattel

A different cultural theme can be found at Luschasattel: the Union Church was built for all religions. It was initiated privately by Florian Sadovnik and is located in the Luschaalm area near Koprein-Petzen, right at Luschasattel and slightly above the Peršmanhof. Alongside the history of the Peršmanhof, it offers a religious site with a distinctive purpose.

Hikes and Time Required

Two easy hikes with clearly defined timeframes can be compared. The “Pod Peco/Koprein Petzen – Kordeževa glava (Peca)” route is 8.50 km long, classified as an easy marked trail, and takes about four hours. The hike from Luschaalm to Feistritzer Spitze is listed as taking three hours. It starts at an elevation of 1,250 m and climbs to 2,114 m, with an elevation gain of 864 m. For the first route, distance and walking time provide a guide; for the second, the starting and ending elevations and the elevation gain are also given. These time estimates help with planning your day; check current trail conditions before setting out.

The Carinthian Border Trail is a longer hiking route. It was marked in 1985 and runs around Carinthia in 45 daily stages. Near Koprein-Petzen, it leads to the Riepl on the Luschaalm and then follows trail no. 603 towards Feistritzer Spitze. This makes it possible to distinguish the local section from the wider Border Trail as a whole.

The Petzen: Landscape and Seasons

The Petzen mountain massif is characterized by steep rock faces, flowering alpine meadows, and extensive dwarf pine fields. In winter, the Petzen offers opportunities for skiing and ski touring. After the snow melts, hiking, mountain biking, and paragliding are also available. When choosing when to travel, you can therefore choose between winter sports and activities after the snowmelt.

Archery on the Luschaalm

The Alpengasthof Riepl is located on the Luschaalm at an elevation of 1,200 m, at the foot of the Topitza, and offers panoramic views and archery. The “Bogenschießen Luscha Alm” 3D course starts at the Alpengasthof Riepl, Koprein 6, 9135 Bad Eisenkappel, and features 28 life-size targets. If you plan to include these activities in your stay, check before you arrive whether the venue is open and archery is available.
