The branch church of St. Augustine, several routes and excursion destinations in the surrounding area offer different points of interest in Sankt Lambrecht. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can first consider whether you are mainly interested in the church and routes in the area or also in destinations such as the Frög Celtic World and Rosegg. This lets you shape your stay around the topics that appeal to you most, without combining the different places and routes into a fixed itinerary.

Branch Church of St. Augustine: Architecture and History

The Catholic branch church of St. Augustine is listed as a protected monument (as of 15 June 2024). It is a simple building with a semicircular choir and a wooden roof turret topped by a pointed gable. Its features include a modest, Baroque-inspired interior and a wooden west gallery. This describes both the exterior form and details of the interior: the rounded choir and roof structure are distinct features alongside the furnishings and gallery.

The church’s history is also marked by several changes. According to an inscription on the west wall, it was devastated during the French Wars of 1813 and completely restored and decorated in 1856. Following a fire in 1883, further renovation was required in 1888. The sequence of devastation, restoration and later renovation provides a historical context for the simple architectural form, without reducing the separate events to a single building phase.

Routes Connected with Sankt Lambrecht

Several routes mention Sankt Lambrecht, but in different ways. The Faaker See–Rosental cycle route is a 27.60-kilometre mountain bike route. After Emmersdorf, it reaches Sankt Lambrecht at kilometre 9.0; there, the branch church of St. Augustine is listed as a place of worship. A stage of the Drauradweg leads from Emmersdorf via Sankt Lambrecht to Selpritsch. The role of the village on these two routes can therefore be clearly distinguished: on one, it is the point at kilometre 9.0, with the church as a place of worship; on the other, it is a stop on the listed stage.

The Cammino Celeste also passes through Sankt Lambrecht and identifies the 19th-century branch church of St. Augustine as a local landmark. On the Marienpilgerweg, the route continues to Selpritsch; after about 200 metres, a turn leads to the branch church. From the church, the route continues via Emmersdorf to Bergl and along the Wudmather Weg to the R1 cycle route. These details describe different route connections, not a single shared sequence. Check route details and local signposting before setting out.

Excursion Destinations in the Surrounding Area

At the Frög Celtic World, a network of paths leads through the burial grounds to one of the largest princely tombs, which has been converted into an open tomb. The site also displays the unique-in-Europe discovery of an ornate lead funeral wagon. The Celtic World presents the way of life, beliefs, worldview and social structure of our ancestors; the focus is on original pieces of jewellery from the woman’s grave in burial mound 120. Here, the path through the burial grounds and specific artefacts offer different perspectives on the past.

Rosegg Animal Park offers 30 spacious hectares for walks. Most of the paths are suitable for pushchairs. More than 300 animals live in the park, many of which roam freely around the grounds. Visitors can walk among historic walls around the historic castle hill and observe the animals. The Rosegg Maze offers a different focus: more than 3,000 hornbeams form a one-kilometre-long hedge across 2,400 square metres. Rosegg lies in the Upper Rosental between Lake Faak, Lake Wörthersee and Lake Keutschach.

This gives you a clear distinction to consider when planning: in Sankt Lambrecht, the focus is on the branch church and its role as a point along the routes; the Frög Celtic World offers an archaeological focus, while Rosegg combines walking paths, wildlife viewing and a hedge maze. You can take these themes into account when choosing a holiday apartment as a starting point for your plans.
