If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Sankt Oswald, you can plan your trip around your preferred focus: summit hikes, accessible themed trails, village history or ski tours. The routes vary in length, elevation gain and seasonal access. This makes it possible to consider in advance whether summits, nature themes or a trail with cultural connections should shape your stay.

Hiking between summits and streams

The five-summit tour begins at the mountain station of the Brunnach Biosphere Reserve Cable Car, which is accessible from Sankt Oswald. It leads over the Brunnachhöhe, Mallnock, Klomnock, Steinnock and Falkert. The cable car operates seasonally. Another hike leads from Falkertsee over the Nock Mountains to Sankt Oswald: the route takes in Falkertspitz, Steinnock, Klomnock and Mallnock, and ends at the mountain station of the Brunnach Biosphere Reserve Cable Car. You can also hike this route in the opposite direction, from Sankt Oswald to Falkertsee.

The dog-walking loop is listed as 9 kilometres long, with 255 metres of elevation gain and a walking time of around three hours. Seasonal conditions can affect how long it takes. The loop can be extended via the Hochsteig to the small “Weiße Wand” viewing platform, before returning to Sankt Oswald. One dog walk starts in the village and follows the Sankt Oswald stream.

The “Family Hike in St. Oswald” is considered an easy ridge walk for all ages. Trail conditions can affect the difficulty. This offers a range of route profiles: a tour taking in five named summits, a hike between Falkertsee and Sankt Oswald, and routes with their own village or altitude focus.

Themed trails and nature topics

A 2-kilometre accessible themed trail is located on the Brunnachhöhe and can be reached from Sankt Oswald by taking the Brunnach Biosphere Reserve Cable Car. The Brunnach themed trail includes a Speick herb trail focusing on the aromatic medicinal plant Speick. The cable car’s seasonal operating schedule also applies to this route.

At “Silva Magica”, you can experience the unique landscape with all your senses. The nature discovery park includes an accessible themed trail and the exhibition “Trees: Masters of Survival”. The Speick herb trail focuses on a specific plant, while at Silva Magica the landscape and exhibition together provide space for nature-related topics.

The village centre and traditional crafts along the circular trail

The St. Oswald circular trail follows the St. Oswalder Bach to the Alte Schmiede, a museum of traditional crafts. It also passes through the idyllic village centre, with its church and small Mesnerhäuschen. The parish church in Sankt Oswald is dedicated to Saint Oswald. This circular trail therefore brings together a stream, a museum of traditional crafts and notable buildings in the village centre along the same route.

Ski tours with different destinations

One ski tour starts in St. Oswald at an altitude of 1,319 metres. It first follows the forest road to the Falkerschutzhaus and continues to the Lärchenhütte; from there, the route climbs through treeless terrain to the 2,308-metre Falkert summit. An easy ski tour starts to the left of the Gasthof-Hotel Hinteregger in St. Oswald, at an altitude of 1,340 metres, and leads through the forest to the 1,970-metre Brunnachhöhe. From there, the view extends into the UNESCO Carinthian Nock Mountains Biosphere Reserve. Both ski tours depend on seasonal snow and route conditions.

The routes described offer different ways to plan your trip: summit destinations and elevation gain, an accessible themed trail, village history or a ski tour. You can choose a holiday apartment based on what matters most for your stay in Sankt Oswald.
