Liebenfels combines a twin-towered castle, paths through the countryside and several active experiences. When choosing accommodation and planning your days, it helps to decide first what you want to focus on: should the castle architecture shape your stay, or would you prefer a longer hike or a particular activity? Options range from climbing the castle to a strategic game in woodland or a glass-roofed hall.
A twin-towered castle and a puzzle in the castle cellar
Liebenfels Castle is a twin-towered castle with two massive keeps. Its six floors can be climbed safely and comfortably via an integrated staircase. If you are interested in architectural forms, you can consider the two keeps and the ascent through the floors as complementary aspects of a castle-focused visit.
Climbing, archery and puzzles
The Liebenfels climbing and low-ropes course covers an area of about 2,500 m². The climbable rock face is about 70 m long and 40 m high, and a low-ropes course is attached. The castle cellar is also home to the “Kerkerflucht” escape room: visitors solve puzzles to escape the dungeon.
The Liebenfels archery course runs alongside streams, through woodland, and past rugged rock faces and viewpoints. The course features 28 life-size 3D animal targets. LaZer Live-Action-Games offers a different kind of experience: this strategic adventure game takes place either across more than one hectare of woodland or in a 400 m² glass-roofed hall. When choosing between the activities, you can consider both the type of activity and its setting.
Hiking trails and the Sörg Waterfall
Liebenfels has an extensive network of cycling and hiking trails. One longer hiking option is the fourth stage of the Vierbergeweg: it runs from St. Leonhard in Liebenfels to Sörg, is 21.1 km long, takes about 6.5 hours and is rated moderate. The Vierbergeweg is signposted and marked in both directions. With this walking time, the stage is a clear choice for a day of hiking; allow extra time for breaks when planning your day.
Along the Abenteuer Wasserweg, you can see the 25 m-high Sörg Waterfall. The trail should not be used in bad weather or during high water. Be sure to check conditions locally before setting off.
Travelling on the Rocki Express
A route description from spring 2026 takes the Rocki Express from the “Die Zechnerin” inn via Sörg, with views across Central Carinthia, to the Sörg Waterfall, then back to the starting point via the panoramic road. Seasonal operating details may change; check in advance whether the ride is available on your chosen date. The difference for your plans lies in the itinerary: on the water trail, the waterfall is a sight along the way; on the Rocki Express, it is part of a ride that returns to the starting point via the panoramic road.
