At Hochrindl, hikers and nature lovers can experience an alpine landscape at elevations between 800 and 2,441 metres above sea level. Hiking destinations include the reservoir and the weather cross at 1,881 metres; in winter, skiing, cross-country skiing and tobogganing add to the range of activities.

Hiking at the Reservoir and via the Ursula Spring

The circular trail around the reservoir is about 2 km long and offers panoramic views. The hike to the reservoir ends at a picturesque mountain lake; from there, the panoramic view stretches from the gentle Nock Mountains to the striking Karawanks. The circular trail to the reservoir passes through blooming alpine meadows to a viewpoint overlooking the Gurk Spring nature reserve.

A hike via the Ursula Spring continues towards Kruckenspitz and reaches the striking weather cross at 1,881 metres above sea level. The return route leads across scenic alpine pastures, meadows and forest paths back to Hochrindl-Alpl. The hiking destinations therefore differ in their focus: at the reservoir, the mountain lake, panoramic views and alpine meadows take centre stage, while the route via the Ursula Spring features the weather cross and a return through meadows and forest.

Winter Sports in Season

The “Krucken” downhill run is a FIS course that regularly hosts European Cup races. The Hochrindl ski area has six lifts and two beginner lifts; the lift configuration may change during operation.

The ski school at Hochrindl offers skiing, snowboarding and cross-country skiing lessons; courses are seasonal. It also organises winter sports events such as ski tours and snowshoe hikes. Individual events are also seasonal.

Hochrindl has 23 km of cross-country ski trails; this offer is seasonal. There are three groomed toboggan runs, including one lit in the evening that leads to the StoicharthĂĽtte. The availability of the toboggan runs depends on snow conditions.

The municipality’s 2024 annual report also lists an artificial ice rink as part of the winter offerings. Its seasonal operation may change.

Chapel and Further Experiences

The Hochrindl mountain chapel is open to visitors at all times of day and night for quiet reflection, silent prayer or a devotional service.

At König Waldgeist, you’ll find carved wooden figures, adventure playgrounds and viewpoints. This combination offers a different focus from the hikes to the reservoir or via the Ursula Spring.

The municipality’s 2024 annual report also lists a DiscGolf course and Nockholz playgrounds at Hochrindl. Their current operating status may change.

Practical Planning for Your Stay

Visitors to Hochrindl have access to numerous free parking spaces. When looking for a holiday apartment for your stay, you can plan your preferred activities and travel dates together: hiking trails, winter sports and a visit to the mountain chapel offer different reasons to visit.

If a particular seasonal or snow-dependent winter activity is important to your plans, check the latest dates and conditions before travelling.
