The Altas Serranías Circuit runs through Los Puquios; Dique Cruz de Piedra is nearby. This distinction in location highlights two different approaches to travel: a longer road route through the Serranías and activities at the reservoir.
The Altas Serranías Circuit
The circuit is 247 kilometres long and runs through Los Puquios. Its scenery includes mountain landscapes with rivers, winding high-altitude roads and reservoirs; legends of the gold rush are also part of the route’s theme. When making the trip, it is advisable to plan for petrol stations, dining options and accommodation, especially if you are travelling in a group.
The scale also matters when choosing your focus: the circuit involves planning a 247-kilometre drive, while the nearby Dique brings together individual activities by the water.
Activities at Dique Cruz de Piedra
At the Dique, you can combine different activities depending on how you prefer to get around. The loop can be driven or cycled, and has rest areas and viewpoints. Paths and steps allow you to walk along the shore, with panoramic views of the Sierras and the reservoir. You can go sport fishing from the shore or with the support of the local nautical club. Landscaped picnic areas nearby offer shade, benches and pergolas; a viewpoint at the Dique also has benches, pergolas and public art.
The difference is practical when choosing an activity: the loop can be driven or cycled, while walking, fishing and picnicking offer different ways to enjoy the water.
Sculptures and sporting history
A sculpture honouring the Malvinas Islands stands at the Los Puquios roundabout. In the area around the town, on the Autopista Los Puquios, there is also a cyclist sculpture that is eight metres long and six metres high. It serves as a photo stop for tourists and cyclists. A queen stage of the Vuelta del Porvenir passed through the Los Puquios area towards El Trapiche and La Florida. In 2015, routes from Los Puquios were planned as the venue for an enduro competition.
The two sculptures have different emphases: the work at the roundabout is a tribute, while the sculpture on the Autopista is a large-scale cyclist motif.
Water and the dam
In the municipality of Juana Koslay, Dique Cruz de Piedra holds back the waters of Arroyo Los Puquitos. Its historic dam wall is one of the reservoir’s sights. Alongside the recreational opportunities, the structure and its function also stand out by the water.
A historical connection to rural life
In 2014, the La Agripina SRL educational and experiential farm opened in Juana Koslay, on the Multitrocha Los Puquios at kilometre 1.5. It was intended to introduce residents, children and tourists to rural life through expert-led tours and to provide a venue for family celebrations.
