Allen is located in the Alto Valle del río Negro. The cultural history at the Museo de Allen, the protection of animal and plant species at Bubalcó, and the Vuelta al Valle, which connects Allen with other cities in the region, offer different ways to get to know the area. Two details should also be distinguished for geographical orientation: the city center is 6 km north of the coast of the Río Negro. Allen’s municipal area extends from the river’s northern left bank and is 16 km from the confluence.
History in the Former Railway Station
The Museo de Allen is located in the city’s former railway station building. Temporary and permanent exhibitions use objects, furniture, photographs and documents to trace and bring to life the everyday experiences of the first settlers and immigrants in the Alto Valle. Furniture and other objects are displayed alongside visual and written materials; together, they offer insight into the history of these ways of life. After the renovation and modernization of its two main rooms, the museum reopened in May 2024. This new phase also included a self-guided tour through its own mobile app.
Biodiversity at Bubalcó
Bubalcó is located in Guerrico, Allen. The park works to protect animal and plant species and preserve biodiversity. Visitors can observe species there in a natural Patagonian coastal biome. Along the trail, they can walk among guanacos, llamas, Fjord ponies, sheep, Somali sheep and rheas. Two themes thus come together: the protection of species and their habitat, and the observation of the specific animals named here. This focus differs from that of the Museo de Allen, whose exhibitions explore the lives of the first settlers and immigrants in the Alto Valle.
Riverside Resort and the Vuelta al Valle
Allen’s riverside resort on Island No. 16 includes barbecue areas, event halls, campsites, sand sports areas and a service area. The Vuelta al Valle has taken place since 1944 and runs from Allen to other cities in the region. While the listed resort facilities concern one specific place, the Vuelta describes a connection between Allen and other cities. These are different regional perspectives. If you plan to use the app-guided tour or specific resort facilities, check their current availability in advance.
