In Guaymallén Department, the connection between cycling, culture and wine is especially evident in Bicitour: in 2024, the program introduced tourist and cultural attractions in the department by bicycle. One route passed through several districts and ended at a winery with a wine tasting. A municipal route report from 2026 names Espacio Cultural Julio Le Parc, next to the old railway station, as the starting point for a Bicitour.
History and Culture
The founding area of Guaymallén is home to the Monumento al Cancionero Cuyano by artist Elio Ortiz and the Casa Museo Molina. The monument’s name adds a musical touch, while the museum offers a historical perspective. The 2025 edition of the municipal program “Recorridos con historia” offered guided walks to historic and heritage sites in Guaymallén.
Cultural programs also offer a variety of highlights. In 2023, Espacio Cultural Julio Le Parc included literature for a broad audience in its program. That same year, “Patios de Guaymallén” was a free open-air program featuring music and dance at changing locations across the department. While Julio Le Parc was associated with literature, “Patios de Guaymallén” brought music and dance outdoors.
Wine Tastings and Local Cuisine
Several wineries in Guaymallén are open to visitors. There, you can learn about the winemaking process and take part in tastings. Which individual wineries welcome visitors may change; check in advance whether your chosen winery offers visits.
The “De la Bodega a tu Resto” series held tastings at various restaurants in the department. It aimed to promote Guaymallén’s gastronomic offerings and wineries; ten events took place in 2024. This means that, alongside winery visits, restaurant events are also part of the area’s culinary programs.
Agriculture and Produce
Guaymallén is a major vegetable-growing area, leads the Cuyo region in vegetable and horticultural production, and is part of Argentina’s second-largest green belt. Its agricultural character is also reflected in a distinctive product: the sweet potato is considered iconic to Guaymallén. It is known for its firmness, flavor and creaminess, and was certified as one of the highest-quality products in Argentina and the world.
