The clock at Comisaría Séptima dates back to 1880. After its restoration, it rang again after eight years of silence. This historical landmark introduces Godoy Cruz Department, whose attractions range from traces of former wineries and cultural venues to the natural area of Piedemonte. When planning your trip, you can focus on wine and architectural history, art, religious sites or outdoor activities.

Wine and Cultural History

The former Bodega Tomba was built by Antonio Tomba starting in 1885. Part of a brick wall from the complex is still visible on Rivadavia and Avenida San MartĂn. Bodega Escorihuela offers another historical landmark: Don Miguel Escorihuela GascĂłn founded it in 1884, and it is the oldest active building in Greater Gran Mendoza.

The Centro Patrimonial Artístico Cristoforo Colombo is also part of Godoy Cruz’s cultural history. The department’s advisory council declared it cultural heritage under Ordinance No. 5751/09. At its inauguration, it was the first art gallery in Godoy Cruz. The opening program included contemporary art interventions, performances and free workshops.

Cine Teatro Plaza began operating as a cinema in 1946. Parroquia San Vicente Ferrer, one of Godoy Cruz’s most representative religious buildings, is now located at Calle Lavalle 60. Biblioteca + Mediateca Pública Municipal Manuel Belgrano, at 54 Calle Antonio Tomba, preserves a large part of the department’s cultural and historical collection and is considered worth visiting.

Wine and Events

The guided wine route in Godoy Cruz begins at Bodega Caro and continues to the Cavas and the Sala de Arte. Check the latest route details before visiting. The municipal wineries in Godoy Cruz offer wine tastings by prior arrangement. This distinguishes the offer from the guided route: tastings require an advance arrangement.

The Fiesta Provincial de la Cerveza also brings together drinks and food. Its beer and food area offers different types of beer and food; each edition also includes options for people with celiac disease. The offer may vary from one edition to another.

Nature and Activity

The Piedemonte of Godoy Cruz is a natural area at the foot of the high mountains. In the municipal Special Nature Conservation Zone, mountain biking, mountaineering, hiking, trekking, birdwatching and recreation are permitted, provided the activities do not pose a risk to the ecosystem. At the El Damasco outpost, hiking, trekking, trail running, mountain biking and other activities are offered. The local nature experience therefore includes both opportunities for observation and a range of physical activities; the ecosystem protection condition applies in the Special Zone.

The six-kilometer Ciclovía connects Parque Estación Benegas with the boundary of Capital Department at Calle Moreno. Parque Estación Benegas serves as a sports and recreational park; artistic performances and craft markets are also held there. The Estación de Niños y Niñas is located in the center of the park. For families, it offers theater performances, interactive games and various workshops, including painting classes.

Religious Sites and Mendoza in a Broader Context

El Calvario straddles the boundary between Godoy Cruz and Luján de Cuyo. The section belonging to Godoy Cruz includes a Way of the Cross, a chapel and depictions of Christ that visitors can see. For context beyond the department: Mendoza Province is divided into five major wine regions—Primera Zona, Valle de Uco, Oasis Este, Oasis Centro-Norte and Oasis Sur.
