In the Department of Loventué, a variety of experiences shape a stay: Victorica offers nature and botanical attractions, as well as designated historic sites; in Carro Quemado, the studio of painter Antonio Ortiz Echagüe takes center stage. There is also a tour of agricultural production and the Fiesta Nacional de la Ganadería del Oeste Pampeano. This makes it possible to explore landscapes and plants, cultural heritage, food production and festival culture as distinct travel themes.

Landscape and travel to and around Victorica

Victorica’s tourist route is characterized by dunes and centuries-old Caldén trees. The route includes Bosque Nativo, where samples of native medicinal plants are collected. Visitors who want to explore landscapes alongside botanical knowledge will find both themes on this route. The Department of Loventué lies within the Caldenar, a native woodland area in La Pampa Province.

Victorica can be reached via Provincial Routes 10 and 105. Route 10 connects the town with the eastern and western parts of the province; Route 105 connects it with southern San Luis and the central part of the province. It is advisable to check current road conditions before setting out.

Historic sites and art in Loventué

Parque Los Pisaderos in Victorica is designated a Lugar Histórico Provincial, or provincial historic site. This specific historic designation complements the town’s nature and botanical attractions.

In 1933, the studio of Antonio Ortiz Echagüe was built in the woods of Estancia La Holanda in Carro Quemado. Most of the painter’s works are kept there; they are part of the cultural heritage of La Pampa Province. The site adds an art-historical dimension, distinct from Victorica’s walking route and festival culture: the focus is on the painter, the history of the studio and the preserved collection of works.

Agriculture and festival culture

The El Caldenal production tour at the Escuela Provincial Agrotécnica Agr. Florencio E. Peirone shows visitors how dairy products, sausages and a variety of agricultural products are made. This adds an insight into food processing and agricultural production to the landscape and art themes. The individual producers taking part may change.

The Fiesta Nacional de la Ganadería del Oeste Pampeano in Victorica was declared a national festival on October 10, 2012, through Resolution No. 244 of Argentina’s Ministry of Tourism. A program description places the festival in February and lists a wide-ranging cultural program featuring open-air concerts, folk festivals, a handicrafts market, theater, exhibitions, talks and other activities. The specific program varies by edition; check the dates and program for the edition you want to attend before planning your trip around it.

The 2021 program description names a Gran Jineteada at Campo Municipal Don Rosario Balmaceda as the closing event. The eight evening events took place at Plaza Héroes de Cochicó. These details describe an earlier edition; they do not determine the program for future editions.

Themes to consider when planning your trip

When looking for hotels in Loventué, it helps to decide on a theme first: landscapes and plants, art history, agricultural production or a particular edition of the festival each offer a different focus. If the Fiesta is the reason for your trip, check the specific dates first. The designated historic sites and the landscape and cultural heritage themes described here offer independent options for planning your trip.
