Perico City brings together a strong carnival tradition, musical events and festivals celebrating regional products. When planning your trip, an event is a good starting point: a carnival date, a concert or a food festival each offers a different glimpse into local cultural life.

Plan Your Arrival and Stay

“Dr. Horacio Guzmán” International Airport is in Perico, 33 km south of San Salvador de Jujuy. If you plan to use it for your trip, you should recheck the onward travel information in advance. Its location is a specific point to consider when deciding whether to include Perico as an overnight stop in your travel plans.

Carnival as a Cultural Highlight

Perico has several generations of comparsas and is considered one of the centers of carnival in the Valles and in Jujuy Province. The 2025 Carnival program was planned to run for ten days: each evening, 25 local and invited groups and comparsas performed, with free admission. On Sundays, families could attend the Corso events for free. Together, these details offer a specific glimpse into the program structure at the time. Dates and participation may vary from year to year; if you are planning your trip around carnival, check the current program.

Processions and Music

The two-day Festival a San José was held as part of the patron saint celebrations in honor of Saint Joseph. In the 2022 edition, local and provincial artists performed; a special performance was by Sergio Galleguillo. The procession in honor of the saint went as far as the restored image of the saint at the city entrance, where an oratory was inaugurated. This festival thus brings together religious tradition, music and a specific place in the cityscape.

Capillas Musicales takes a different approach: the program uses concerts at prominent venues to highlight cultural heritage. A concert in Perico took place in 2025 on Juan Bautista Alberdi Street, opposite Plaza San Martín. It was open to the public and free of charge. Unlike a multi-day carnival program, this event centers on a concert at a specific named location. As future dates may vary, check the program before your visit.

Cuisine and Products from Jujuy

The 2026 edition of the Festival del Disco combines cuisine and culture: all the food on offer was prepared on iron. The program also included live painting by 15 visual artists, local ballet groups and folk music. This festival brings together a distinctive way of preparing food and several forms of artistic expression.

Frutillazo highlights Perico’s productive and gastronomic identity; strawberries are among the products given particular prominence. If you are planning to attend the 2026 edition, check the specific program before your trip.

A broader regional perspective was offered by the Expo-Feria Productiva “Regiones Vivas.” It showcased the productivity, crafts and winegrowing of Jujuy’s four regions. On May 22, 2026, the fair took place in the parking area of the Polo Comercial y Cultural de Perico. More than 300 producers and entrepreneurs participated, as well as more than 150 local businesspeople. In contrast to Frutillazo’s focus on strawberries, this event featured a variety of regional products and fields of activity. For travelers interested in cuisine, crafts or winegrowing, these events showcase different aspects of Perico’s productive identity.
