Paraná offers several distinct ways to explore the city: art and history museums, guided city tours, activities on the Río Paraná and parks with varied landscapes. When planning your visit, you can treat culture, water and green spaces as separate areas of focus.
Art, Collections and City History
The Museo Provincial de Bellas Artes Dr. Pedro E. Martínez has four galleries for temporary exhibitions, five galleries for the permanent collection and an auditorium. The temporary exhibitions and the permanent collection offer different points of focus, so you can plan your museum visit around your interest in exhibitions or collections.
The Museo Histórico de Entre Ríos “Martiniano Leguizamón” displays archaeological artifacts from Indigenous communities, as well as exhibits from the period of the Spanish conquest. An operational update dated August 13, 2026, states that the library and reading room hold more than 10,000 volumes. The museum’s newspaper and periodicals archive contains more than 2,000 historical newspapers and magazines. Alongside the exhibits, extensive book and press collections are also a central feature.
Several museums surround Plaza Alvear, which is also known as “Plaza de los Museos” or “Plaza San Miguel.” The Catedral Metropolitana Nuestra Señora del Rosario adds a historical perspective: construction began in 1883, and the cathedral was inaugurated in 1886. In 1942, it was declared a National Historic Monument. These dates distinguish the start of construction, the inauguration and the later designation as a historic monument as separate milestones.
Guided Experiences in Paraná
The guided tour of the Túnel Subfluvial Museum introduces the history, construction and operation of the road link between the provinces of Entre Ríos and Santa Fe. If you arrive in a private vehicle, the tour also includes an exclusive visit to the control room, the Sala de Comando. The experience therefore combines the history of the structure with a look at how it operates.
The Paraná Bus Turístico offers a different perspective, with guided tours through the city’s emblematic streets and places. While the museum tour focuses on a particular structure, the bus tour takes in streets and places across Paraná.
Activities on the Río Paraná
On the Río Paraná in Paraná, you can take boat trips and visit islands, as well as sail, row, canoe, wakeboard, kitesurf, stand-up paddleboard, water-ski, fish and go on photo safaris. The options offer different ways to spend time on and by the river.
One specific paddling option is the SUP PARANÁ school. It is located on Paraná’s waterfront, at the end of Playa Municipal, and offers the chance to paddle the Río Paraná on a board and visit the islands. It adds an explicitly described SUP option to the city’s wide range of activities.
Parks and Waterfront Landscapes
Parque Urquiza covers 44 hectares and is divided into upper, middle and lower waterfront areas. Its size and three-tiered layout define this description of a park by the river.
Parque José Gazzano is a nature reserve in central Paraná. One of its features is an artificial lagoon, home to ducks, geese and turtles, among other animals. By comparison, the waterfront areas are the main feature of Parque Urquiza, while Parque José Gazzano is distinguished by its lagoon and the animals that live there.
