Tanti Nuevo is home to the historic La Primavera–La Merced estate; the municipality of Tanti also offers cultural and nature destinations. This lets you weigh local history, riverside trails and other excursions in the municipality when planning your trip.

La Primavera–La Merced and the history of the area

The La Primavera–La Merced estate in Tanti Nuevo includes the former main house of Estancia Tanti, once called La Bella Vista. A rock overhang and stone-carved coanas are preserved on the La Merced grounds. Next to the grounds is Las Piedras Lisas, the wide, rocky bed of the Río Tanti.

Estancia La Bella Vista is considered to have been the former Tanti estate, structured by Juan de Liendo in 1695. The former estate was divided into an eastern and a western part: the eastern part was named La Merced, while the western part kept the name La Primavera. On April 26, 1897, a property in Tanti Nuevo was sold to the Sisters of St. Joseph as a retreat house. These historical details provide context for the name La Merced and the ensemble, but do not imply that it can be visited today.

Water and trails in the municipality of Tanti

A trail to Piedras Lisas follows the upper Arroyo Tanti. After two kilometers, you reach a waterfall and a pool surrounded by eroded rock slabs. To help orient yourself, note the distinction between the descriptions: Piedras Lisas is the destination of this trail; Las Piedras Lisas refers to the wide, rocky bed of the Río Tanti beside the La Merced grounds in Tanti Nuevo.

At Pozo del Indio, a seven-meter-deep pool has been formed by successive waterfalls; 12-meter-high rock walls surround it. La Cascada is a natural waterfall more than eight meters high, with rock walls covered in ferns and vines. Route conditions and access to these natural destinations may change. Check the current situation before setting out.

The private Reserva Cerro Blanco covers 380 hectares and is considered a place to observe condors, as well as flora and fauna. A 1,200-meter-long hiking trail there leads to the Río Yuspe. As this is a private reserve and trail conditions may change, check access options and the state of the trail in advance.

For more trekking routes, a winding gravel stretch of Provincial Route 28 runs from Tanti for 30 kilometers to La Rotonda, the starting point for several routes in the Macizo. This describes the distance, not the travel time. Road conditions and access arrangements can also change here.
