Summer water sports, an art gallery and routes to religious images give Bialet Massé a variety of attractions. In summer, Balneario Barrancas Bermejas draws enthusiasts of rowing, kayaking, canoeing and paddling. You can therefore choose different focuses when planning your trip: water, art, sacred architecture or views.

Water and Landscape

In the vicinity of the destination is Cascada del Mallín, a natural swimming area about 8 km from the town’s shopping center. There, tourists and locals can enjoy the Arroyo Mallín watercourse and its distinctive waterfall. Alongside the summer water sports at the balneario, this offers another waterside spot with its own character.

Costanera Villa Liliana, beside the Río Cosquín, has a stand of trees. Barrancas Bermejas is considered a natural monument formed over hundreds of years. These places draw attention to different aspects of the landscape: a riverside area with trees and a natural monument whose formation took place over a long period.

Art, Chapels and Routes

Casa de la Cultura serves as an art gallery, with exhibitions by prominent visual artists. If you would like to include art in your trip planning, you can consider this cultural attraction alongside the water and landscape highlights.

The two chapels also offer different perspectives. Capilla San Plácido stands out for its striking Neo-Gothic structure and whitish color. Capilla San Cayetano, in turn, offers an impressive view of Bialet Massé. The places are distinguished by the features that define them: architecture at one, views of the town at the other.

Gruta de la Virgen María Rosa Mística invites visitors to follow a route through the mountainous landscape. On the grounds, an image of the Virgin stands on a pedestal. Another route leads from the esplanade of Capilla San Plácido up Cerro Santo Domingo: the ascent is about two kilometers long and leads to the image of Virgen de la Medalla Milagrosa. These options offer different route experiences, and a specific distance for the ascent to Cerro Santo Domingo.

Views and Orientation

El Despeñadero, also called Mirador, is located on National Route 38, on elevated ground in the north of the town. From there, visitors can enjoy views of the Río Cosquín and Bialet Massé. Together with the view from Capilla San Cayetano, the mirador offers another perspective on the town; its elevated position and location in the north also help with orientation.

Two different reference points can help you choose based on travel time and route length: Balneario Barrancas Bermejas attracts water sports enthusiasts in summer, while the ascent to Cerro Santo Domingo is about two kilometers long. This helps distinguish a seasonal focus on water from a route with a stated distance, without combining the two experiences into a single excursion.

Departamento Punilla as a Regional Setting

Beyond Bialet Massé, the wider destination of Departamento Punilla also offers landscape highlights. At 1,979 meters, Cerro Uritorco is the highest point in northern Punilla. Departamento Punilla is also home to Quebrada del Condorito National Park. The gorge is V-shaped, 800 meters high and 1,500 meters wide at its broadest point; Andean condors can be observed from its upper edges. Punilla also has five major reservoirs where visitors can fish; sailing and motorized water sports are possible there as well.
