Bell Ville: Football, Nature and History
Since 2017, Bell Ville has held the official title of “National Capital of Football.” The Francisco Tau Nature Reserve and cultural sites with designated heritage status also shape Bell Ville, alongside football. For your stay, you can focus on the Fiesta, nature watching or historical collections, depending on your interests.
Football History and the Fiesta
The National Football Festival (Fiesta Nacional de la Pelota de Fútbol) takes place every year and commemorates the cord-free football invented in Bell Ville in 1931. The event thus highlights a specific origin of the city. If the Fiesta is the reason for your trip, check the dates for your intended travel year.
At the 22nd National Football Festival (XXII Fiesta Nacional de la Pelota de Fútbol), the 2025 edition brought together performers, entrepreneurs, trade fair exhibitors and food and drink offerings in a cultural and recreational space.
Nature in the Francisco Tau Nature Reserve
The Francisco Tau Nature Reserve serves as a refuge for regional wildlife, especially birds. Regular observations in the reserve have recorded at least 125 bird species.
Native trees are another distinctive feature of the protected area. These include algarrobos, talas, chañares, espinillos and moradillos, which are described as several centuries old.
A guided visit begins on an interpretive trail. There, visitors learn about the flora and fauna of the Espinal ecoregion and how they interact; the route then continues to the Bardiz Environmental Interpretation Center.
The two bathing areas, El Diquecito and El Paso de la Arena, each have a canteen. A municipal notice dated January 23, 2026, also stated that there were two lifeguards at each beach, on duty between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. As conditions may change seasonally, check the details before swimming.
Cultural Sites and Historical Collections
The Casa de la Cultura was declared a municipal site of interest in 1976. On June 23, 1980, it was declared a provincial site of interest by Decree No. 3718. The building houses the Sargento Mayor Lorenso de Lara Regional History Museum, the Walter de Navazio Museum of Fine Arts and the Bell Ville Municipal Center for Historical Studies.
The former Hotel de los Inmigrantes offers another perspective on history and is a Provincial Historical Monument. A museum in part of the former building illustrates life at the hotel and rural activities. While the Casa de la Cultura houses several museums and a historical studies center, this museum focuses on life at the former hotel and rural work.
