San Antonio can be understood within the broader context of the Department of ColĂłn, where Jesuit estancias, landscapes and historic cultural events sit side by side. In the municipality, guided tours and a winter holiday programme with excursions and workshops complement these themes. When planning, it helps to distinguish permanent cultural attractions from individual programme events; check current visitor information and event dates before your trip.
Estancia Caroya: World Heritage and historic work
In the municipality, Estancia Caroya was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site together with other estancias in the province. Guided tours of the Museo HistĂłrico y de los Inmigrantes, which is now housed there, showcase historic objects and furniture. Tours of the grounds explore the production and technical systems used by the Jesuits. The museum focuses on historic objects, while the tours of the grounds highlight how work was carried out there.
The history of the estancia dates back to 1616, when it was established as a rural agricultural enterprise in the Department of ColĂłn. This historical context adds insight into the site's original purpose. When visiting, you can choose between guided tours of the museum and tours of the grounds. Ask about current tour arrangements before your visit.
Cycling, hiking and the winter programme
A winter holiday programme included a free 15-kilometre family cycling tour of moderate difficulty. The meeting point was Casa Copetti, and the tour included a snack. A hike in Reserva San Carlos was also free, 15 kilometres long and of moderate difficulty. It started at SĂşper Mami, included a snack and had a limited number of places.
Both activities had the same stated distance and difficulty level, but differed in how participants travelled: by bike or on foot. They were events in a winter holiday programme.
As part of the same programme, the Museo Casa Copetti hosted the “Herederos del Sabor” workshop on traditional cuisine from 2 to 5 pm. Places were limited. A free fair with a kite-making workshop was also held there from 2 to 5 pm. The programme thus combined a culinary theme with a hands-on craft activity. Check whether specific programme events are currently scheduled before your trip.
Jesuit heritage in the Department of ColĂłn
The Estancia de JesĂşs MarĂa–Museo JesuĂtico Nacional is part of the Jesuit Estancias of CĂłrdoba system, which UNESCO declared a World Heritage Site in 2000. A guided tour explores historic areas used for wine production, including the rooms where grapes were processed and the wine cellar where the wine was subsequently stored. This offers a concrete insight into the former stages of wine production.
Estancia Santa Catalina was founded in 1622 and became the most important centre of livestock production. Its complex includes a church, the priests’ residence, workers’ quarters, a mill and a water reservoir. These features reflect the different functions of the historic complex: religious life, accommodation, production and water supply. Taken together, they show why the complex cannot be reduced to a single building.
At the entrance to the Estancia JesuĂtica de Colonia Caroya in the Department of ColĂłn is the Centro TurĂstico del Legado JesuĂtico y Camino Real. Its annex presents a graphic and conceptual overview of the former Camino Real in northern CĂłrdoba.
Landscape and events
Parque del Oeste is located in JesĂşs MarĂa, the capital of the Department of ColĂłn. The protected area covers almost 100 hectares and lies a few blocks from the city centre, along the western waterfront.
The Festival Nacional de Doma y Folklore is also part of the regional events calendar: its 60th edition in 2026 drew more than 450,000 people over ten days of events. If you are planning your trip around events, check the relevant dates.
