Agua De Oro brings together distinctive natural and cultural features: the Río Chavascate flows year-round, the Reserva Natural Urbana 22 Hectáreas protects an important ecosystem, and historic buildings add to the town’s history. Two easy municipal routes with noticeably different time estimates—from about 30 minutes to around two and a half hours—can help you plan your day.

River, Nature and Easy Routes

The Río Chavascate runs through Agua De Oro and flows year-round. The Reserva Natural Urbana 22 Hectáreas offers a viewpoint and birdwatching trails. The river, a permanent feature of the landscape, and wildlife observation in the protected area offer two distinct ways to experience the surroundings.

The municipal “Circuito Naturaleza y Sentidos” is an easy 3 km walking route, with an estimated duration of about 2.5 hours. The shorter, easy “Circuito Histórico Y Cultural” is a walk of about 30 minutes. You can choose between a short cultural circuit and a considerably longer nature walk. Both time estimates are approximate and help give an idea of the length of each route.

Buildings and Local History

The Iglesia San Vicente Ferrer was built in 1741 and is a municipal historic monument. The Casona Ismeria, built in 1913, is in the Neocolonial style and is considered a historic and cultural monument. The construction dates span the years 1741 to 1913, giving the two buildings distinct historical points of reference.

The Museo HistĂłrico, ArqueolĂłgico y Sala de Arte Agua De Oro displays local maps and photographs, tools donated by residents, and archaeological artifacts. The exhibition brings together different kinds of local records: historic views of the town, tools owned by residents, and archaeological finds. The museum thus complements the history of the buildings with perspectives on documented places, everyday objects and earlier settlement.

Festivals and Culinary Traditions

Every year on April 5, Agua De Oro holds a celebration in honor of San Vicente Ferrer. Participants include worshippers, gaucho groups and folklore academies, bringing together religious and folkloric traditions. A municipal report from April 2026 also reports the tenth edition of the Festival de la Paella Gigante in Agua De Oro, where more than 800 servings of paella were sold. The two events reflect different cultural themes: an annual celebration and a culinary festival whose tenth edition is documented here.

Historical Perspectives in Departamento ColĂłn

The wider destination of Departamento Colón offers a broader historical context, with several estancias. The Estancia de Jesús María–Museo Jesuítico Nacional is part of the Jesuit Estancias of Córdoba system, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. The guided tour introduces historic winemaking areas, including rooms for processing grapes and the wine cellar used for subsequent storage. The Estancia de Caroya was established in 1616 as a rural agricultural enterprise. The Estancia Santa Catalina was founded in 1622 and developed into the most important center of livestock production. Its complex includes a church, the priests’ residence, workers’ quarters, a mill and a water reservoir. Together, these examples illustrate different historical themes in Departamento Colón: winemaking, agriculture and livestock production.
