El Hoyo combines a striking mountain landscape with trails by the water, regional production, and cultural destinations. When choosing your accommodation and excursions, it is worth keeping these different highlights in mind: they range from a clearly defined route along a stream to visits and an annual festival.

Landscape and Trails in El Hoyo

Majestic mountains, clear rivers and lakes shape the landscape of El Hoyo; Ruta 40 is also part of the scenery. The town is surrounded by the Cordillera de los Andes. In the Reserva Provincial Catarata Corbata Blanca, an 850-meter trail runs along a stream and offers panoramic views of the valley.

Trekking is also possible in El Hoyo. Those interested in this activity will find not only general opportunities, but also a named nature trail with a stream and valley views.

Producers and an Annual January Event

The Camino de la Producción runs through the valley of El Hoyo and offers opportunities to meet producers of fine fruit, vegetables, wine, honey, and beer. The variety therefore ranges from agricultural produce to beverages. If you are especially interested in regional products, you can make this route a distinct highlight alongside the natural and cultural destinations.

A regular date on the annual calendar is the Fiesta de la Fruta Fina: it takes place every year on the second weekend of January and was first held in 1986. If you would like to plan your trip around the Fiesta, check the exact event dates in advance. This helps distinguish the recurring period from the specific dates that apply each year.

Visits and Excursion Destinations

Laberinto Patagonia is located in the area around El Hoyo. Its paths total 2,200 meters, and nine entrances lead into the complex. The grounds include five hectares of parkland and native forest. Visitors can spend the day there and make their way through the maze to its center and exit. Its path length, number of entrances, and area make it quite different in scale from the 850-meter stream trail at the Reserva Provincial Catarata Corbata Blanca.

Near the center of El Hoyo, Arcosauria Parque Temático de El Hoyo offers a guided visit lasting about two hours. Visitors can see life-size sculptures of prehistoric animals interacting with a typical farm, as well as teros and bandurrias. Museo Histórico El Hoyo is also part of the tourist offering. Together, these destinations provide different cultural points of interest, though they are not the same kind of visit.

Further Context in Departamento Cushamen

To look beyond El Hoyo, it is worth placing it in the context of Departamento Cushamen. Piedra Parada lies partly within this department; the protected area covers 132 hectares of Patagonian steppe and lies between the departments of Languiñeo and Cushamen. Piedra Parada is suitable for trekking and mountain biking. At the entrance to the area, a three-kilometer trail leads into the Cañadón de la Buitrera, a rock pass sheltered from the winds, with cliffs more than 100 meters high.

Lago Epuyén, the main attraction of Epuyén, is also in Departamento Cushamen. The lake is located in Parque Municipal Puerto Bonito and Reserva Forestal de Usos Múltiples Lago Epuyén. Its water is warm and clear, with an average temperature of 15 °C. Lago Epuyén thus adds another nature-focused topic to the regional overview.
