The islands of the Partido form a developing delta ecosystem with a branching network of canals and streams. The islands themselves were created by sediment deposits. This landscape is complemented by places where the river and everyday life can be experienced in other ways: along Zárate’s waterfront, in the water sports areas of Isla Talavera, and through experiences on the Paraná in Lima.

Riverside, Delta and Water Sports

From Zárate’s waterfront, you can look out over the Río Paraná de las Palmas and the Zárate–Brazo Largo railway complex. The riverfront is also suitable for water sports and outdoor recreation. Isla Talavera has a broad stretch of shoreline suitable for water sports. Facilities there include basic camping, cabins, bungalows, fishing clubs and private recreation areas. The amenities at individual facilities and the services they offer may change; check their current availability if you have specific plans.

Lima also offers waterfront recreation on the Paraná, including fishing and water sports. You can experience the Partido’s connection to the water in different places: with views of the river and bridge complex in Zárate, through water sports along Isla Talavera’s broad shoreline, or with activities on the Paraná in Lima. The perspective that interests you most can provide a useful focus for your explorations.

Tango and Rural History

Zárate was declared the provincial capital of tango in December 2009. The Festival Provincial del Tango is considered a traditional cultural event in Zárate Partido. No specific event date is part of this enduring cultural designation; if you want to plan your visit around a festival, check the current event dates.

Several places in Escalada tell a story of a long local history. The Tuculet family bakery and Rolo’s general store each have a history of more than 140 years. There is also a historic rural tram stop dating from 1888. Together, these different places make Escalada interesting to visitors who want to explore everyday history and the Partido’s rural heritage. Nearby, in the rural hamlet of El Tatú near Escalada, the Oratorio Nuestra Señora de Vladimir was built in the Neo-Colonial style in 1987.

Culture, Art and Greenways

In Lima, the Museo Identidad Limeña is considered an important institution for preserving the town’s historical and cultural heritage. In Zárate, meanwhile, the market is located on the riverfront and serves as a gastronomic and commercial hub, with a range of venues and offerings in design and art. As individual businesses may change, check what is currently available if you have a particular visit in mind.

A different setting awaits you at Castex Bridge over the Areco River. Its picturesque rural surroundings are suitable for cycling. The Partido therefore offers a range of experiences: tango and local history, art and food along the riverfront, and a rural landscape suited to cycling. You can shape your explorations around these interests without needing to follow a set route.
