The Albufera de Reta is a coastal lagoon of salt and fresh water, separated from the sea by a sandy spit. There are also wide, natural beaches and a local history with traces that predate Reta itself. So anyone planning a stay will find more than just a beach destination: the lagoon landscape, coastal town and local festival tradition each offer something different.

Lagoon and protected area

Since 2004, the Albufera de Reta has been the first protected area in the Partido de Tres Arroyos. The lagoon landscape includes an outlet from the freshwater lagoon to the sea via the Arroyo “El Gaucho.” Its habitat is home to land mammals, marine animals and birds. For travelers, this creates a distinct focus on nature and waterways alongside the beach: the lagoon is both part of the coastal landscape and a habitat for various groups of animals.

Beaches and local history

Reta is one of the three beach resorts in Tres Arroyos, alongside Balneario Claromecó and Balneario Orense. Its beaches are wide and natural. So when choosing a stretch of coast, the Albufera is also an option in its own right as a landscape to explore; both shape Reta in different ways.

At Barco Hundido, there are shipwreck remains that were already there before Reta was founded in 1930. This place therefore points to a history that goes back to before the town’s founding.

Fiesta del Pueblo

Reta celebrates its town anniversary with the Fiesta del Pueblo. The festival includes a fair featuring craftspeople and producers from Reta and the surrounding region. If you would like to plan your stay around this festival, check the event dates in advance.

Practical information

The Reta Tourist Office is located at Avenida del Pescador and Calle 34. During the season, it is open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; outside the season, it is open on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Opening hours may change, so check them before visiting.

The official tourism portal lists a Tres Arroyos–Oriente–Reta connection under “Reta Tur.” Check the listing for the latest information before traveling.

In the wider destination of Tres Arroyos Partido

In the wider destination of Tres Arroyos Partido, Tres Arroyos is the district capital and is located at the intersection of National Routes RN3 and RN228. Also within the wider destination, an area of about 1,100 hectares was designated as the Reserva Natural Municipal Claromecó in 2017. It serves to protect the biodiversity of endemic, migratory, threatened and endangered species. This information adds regional urban orientation and another designated protected area to the picture of Reta.

Plan your travel dates and stay

The lagoon, beaches and shipwreck remains at Barco Hundido are enduring features of the area; for the Fiesta del Pueblo, however, the event date matters when planning. The tourist information office’s opening hours also depend on the season. If any of these time-specific details will shape your stay, check them in advance.
