Dique Luján and Villa La Ñata lie on the Río Luján; a vertical-lift bridge over the Villanueva Canal connects them. Culture, local history and waterside leisure activities give travelers a range of themes to shape their stay around.
River Landscape and Surroundings
Another landmark in the landscape is Punta Querandí. It lies in the continental wetlands of the Río Luján, on the border between Dique Luján and Maschwitz. The winter solstice ceremony takes place there. It has been held every year since 2010 between June 20 and 24; the specific date varies within that period. The ceremony is one of the most heavily attended events and brings members of the Indigenous movement together with local environmental and territorial struggles in the region. If you would like to plan your visit around it, check the specific event date in advance.
Culture and Local History
Casa Museo Xul Solar is located in Villa La Ñata, which is part of the Dique Luján locality. It is housed in the home Xul Solar bought in 1954 at the confluence of the Río Luján and the Villanueva Canal. This links the museum, the artist and a specific geographic location.
Another aspect of local history is told by the former Sociedad Anónima Formio Argentino factory. From 1944 to 1965, it housed the first location of Escuela Primaria 16. At the time, students and teachers reached the building on a raft that crossed the Villanueva Canal. The waterway was thus part of the school journey, linking the canal’s history with everyday life in the school community of the time.
Leisure by the Water
The promenade in Villa La Ñata and Dique Luján features a distinctive barge that serves as a recreational space for children and visitors to the area. The improvement project for the promenade, described in August 2026, also includes a new accessibility ramp.
Another leisure option is Recreo ACA Delta, a facility on the Río Luján. Its amenities include a waterfront area, a swimming pool, a large wooded park, tables and barbecue grills, a bar, and play equipment for children. This offers a variety of options, including time by the water, the park and the leisure activities listed. Non-members can hire the transfer service exclusively through Líneas Delta at stand No. 7 at River Station. As facilities and operating arrangements may change, check the current conditions before your visit.
In Dique Luján, Turismo Kayak offers kayak rentals, courses and guided group trips. These are three different options: rent a kayak, take a course or join a guided group trip. Reservations and schedules may change; if you plan to take part in an activity, check the latest reservation and scheduling information in advance.
