In the Partido de Tapalqué, thermal waters and festival culture come together in different ways: at Termas Tapalqué, pools and landscaped grounds take center stage; at local festivals, recipes and the preparation of food become part of the visit. These two sides offer a stay shaped by water, walking trails, local history and regional cuisine.
Thermal Waters, Green Spaces and Trails
Termas Tapalqué is a tourist complex developed by the Tapalqué community. The grounds cover 17 hectares and are wooded and landscaped. Facilities include thermal water pools, as well as an outdoor area with freshwater pools, a children's area and water play features. The different pool areas complement the surrounding landscape. Facilities may change, so check which areas are available before your visit.
The complex is 1.5 kilometers from the center of Tapalqué and can be reached via Route 51. The access road is suitable for all types of vehicles for most of the year. As road conditions can change, it is worth checking the route before setting out.
Balneario Municipal de Tapalqué and its surroundings have trails for walking and experiencing nature. If you don't want to plan your stay solely around the pools, you'll find another focus here: trails and nature experiences are also among the activities available in the area.
The Camping Municipal is located on the banks of Arroyo Tapalqué and is considered a destination for family vacations. Facilities include toilets, showers, electricity, hot water, grills, fire pits and sinks; staff are on duty around the clock. As facilities may change, it's best to ask about the amenities you need before your trip.
Cinema and Local History
The Centro Cultural Ricardo Romera houses a cinema that belongs to the Espacios INCAA network and screens current international releases. The program may change; if a particular film is central to your visit, check screening times in advance.
In Crotto, the former railway station has been converted into the Museo Municipal Comunitario, which preserves the local heritage. Crotto was declared a Pueblo Turístico of the Province of Buenos Aires. The statue La Mujer Campesina also stands in the central square. The museum, the designation and the statue offer different ways to discover the town's cultural life.
Festivals and Regional Cuisine
For more than ten years, Tapalqué has celebrated the Fiesta de la Torta Negra in January. At the festival, you can sample a large Torta Negra and make your own cakes in clay ovens using the original recipe. Baking is as much a part of the experience as tasting.
The Fiesta del Cantón Tapalqué takes place as part of Día del Pueblo, celebrated on November 7. A whole hide-on beef carcass, as well as lambs and suckling pigs, are cooked over large fires. Festival program details may vary; check the dates when planning your trip.
Crotto also brings events together with local tradition: a tribute to rural women takes place in April. It includes typical food, traditional games and artistic performances; program details may vary. At Paraje Campodónico, on the border between the partidos of Azul and Tapalqué, you can sample picadas and discover regional handicrafts.
Different Access Routes
To reach Crotto, take provincial road RP 51 to Tapalqué, then follow the access road to Crotto. Velloso can be reached via rural roads and Routes 3, 61 and 51. If weather makes the rural roads impassable, Provincial Route 5 provides an alternative route.
Velloso has a swimming pool that is open during the summer season. If you plan to visit, ask about the specific opening dates in advance. This makes it easier to include the different destinations and their seasonal offerings in your travel plans.
