In San Vicente Partido, two main areas of interest stand out: nature at Laguna del Ojo and the cultural history of San Vicente. San Vicente is part of the southern Greater Buenos Aires area. When planning your trip, it is worth first considering whether you want to spend more time observing nature and exploring green spaces, or learning about local history and attending events.

Nature at Laguna del Ojo

At Laguna del Ojo, a variety of activities are available by the water: there are trails and opportunities for fishing, and you can also picnic, take boat trips, and watch birds. Walking and nature photography are other options. If you would prefer a more peaceful time by the water, you can watch the sunset and experience the local biodiversity.

The reserve area protects the lake’s flora and fauna, as well as its native shrubs and trees. Environmental education, nature interpretation, and passive recreation are among the area’s designated uses. The tourism report describes newly built wooden walkways that make it easier to walk around and observe native birds; check locally to see whether anything has changed since then. At the lagoon, both active pursuits and opportunities to observe and linger take center stage.

Trails in the surrounding countryside

If you prefer to get around on foot or by bike, the Caminos rurales and Once Bocas offer hiking and cycling routes. These routes complement the options at Laguna del Ojo, but do not form a single combined route. When deciding what to do, it is therefore helpful to consider your interests separately: the water, birdwatching, and fishing on the one hand, and hiking and cycling on rural trails on the other.

Railway heritage and history in San Vicente

The Vieja Estación preserves San Vicente’s railway heritage. Rusty platforms and the nostalgic structure of the old railway station recall the town’s railway history. The Vieja Estación is also a starting point for cultural walks with a local flavor. In the town center, San Vicente Ferrer stands out for its distinctive architecture, historical value, religious significance, and deep cultural roots.

Another historic site is the Quinta de San Vicente / Museo Histórico “17 de Octubre.” The 18-hectare estate was one of Juan Domingo Perón’s residences and was declared a Lugar Histórico Nacional in 2002. The property includes an extensive park with eucalyptus, ash, linden, and walnut trees, as well as blue cedars. Statues by Italian sculptor Leone Tommasi are also displayed in the park. President Perón used a stone tower to record his radio addresses. Since 2006, a mausoleum on the grounds has housed the remains of General Perón.

Markets and events

Markets and outdoor activities bring crafts, local specialties, and offerings for the whole family to plazas and green spaces. The events calendar also includes Carnival, peñas, patriotic celebrations, and gatherings that showcase different facets of local culture.

The Fiesta Provincial de la Mozzarella takes place every year at the Vieja Estación. Producers, chefs, artists, and visitors from across the region come together for the event. As dates vary, check the schedule for your preferred travel period before your trip.

There are several different themes to choose from during a stay: nature and wildlife observation at Laguna del Ojo, hiking and cycling on rural trails, and railway heritage, history, and events in San Vicente. Choosing a focus helps you tailor your trip to your interests.
