In Necochea, nature watching, water activities, and culture meet across a variety of landscapes and places. Parque Miguel Lillo, Paseo de la Ribera, and the Museo Histórico Regional “Egisto Ratti” are located in the city; other natural destinations lie in the surrounding area or farther afield. When planning your trip, you can distinguish between experiences in the city and destinations with a specifically regional focus.

Woodland, Gardens, and Birds

Parque Miguel Lillo covers 640 hectares and has more than one million trees, mostly conifers, which provide shelter for the region’s birds. The wooded area has internal trails and an aerobics course. The grounds also include a French garden, a Japanese garden, and a rock garden. The trails and gardens offer different ways to explore the park without requiring you to follow a particular route.

Lago de los Cisnes offers a different way to experience nature: the artificial lake is bordered by a beach and Parque Miguel Lillo, and various waterbird species can be observed along its shore. While the description of the large park highlights its trees and the shelter it provides for birds, the focus at the lake is on watching waterbirds.

Along the Río Quequén and in the City

Paseo de la Ribera runs along the Río Quequén, from its starting point at Calle 66 to Puente Taraborelli. Along the paseo, there are riverside viewpoints, play and rest areas, fishing spots, a food and drink service, restrooms, barbecue areas, and play equipment for children. The named endpoints help you find your way; the facilities along the paseo combine river views with various ways to spend time outdoors.

Another landmark address is Rambla Municipal on Calle 83. Since it was built in 1910, it has been considered an emblematic meeting place. Parque Miguel Lillo is also an option for horseback riding: the rental location is at Avenida 10 and Calle 117. The service is seasonal, so check in advance whether it is available during your travel dates.

Water Destinations Nearby

At Escollera Sur in Necochea, there is a surf spot with point-break waves over a sandy bottom. According to the description, the waves can reach up to three meters; this maximum is not a current surf forecast. It describes the spot, not the conditions on any particular day.

About 12 kilometers from the city, Paraje Las Cascadas lies along the Río Quequén. Natural pools and cascades define the area, where activities include kayaking, canoeing, rafting, and rowing. Nearby, 16 kilometers southwest of the city center, is Playa Punta Negra. There, rock formations extend from the cliffs into the sea. Natural pools provide habitat for fish, mollusks, and marine plants. The two destinations therefore differ both in location and in their described landscapes and activities.

Museum and Regional History

The Museo Histórico Regional “Egisto Ratti” invites visitors to learn about the history of the Partido de Necochea in themed galleries and temporary exhibitions. The published visiting schedule applies from March to December: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. This schedule was published on March 16, 2026; check the hours again before your visit.

Puente Colgante “Presidente Hipólito Yrigoyen” is also a historic landmark in the Necochea Partido. It connects Necochea and Quequén across the Río Quequén Grande and was officially inaugurated on July 21, 1929. Today, it is designated a National Historic Monument.

Reserva Natural Arroyo Zabala is part of the natural setting of the wider Necochea Partido destination. This provincial nature reserve, in the “Multiple Use” category, covers 2,800 hectares on both sides of Necochea and San Cayetano, at the mouth of the stream of the same name. Coastal transition dunes and ecosystems adapted to the exchange of fresh and salt water characterize the area. The reserve protects representative coastal flora and fauna, including capybaras and sea lions.
