Remedios de Escalada offers several distinct cultural points of interest: railway heritage, hands-on science and remembrance. At Ferroclub Argentino, historic workshops and railway vehicles take centre stage; the Centro Interactivo de Ciencia y Tecnología Abremate is dedicated to interactive modules in physics, chemistry and biology. Other highlights include Paseo de la Memoria, the Biblioteca Popular Alberdi, founded in 1918, and the Museo Universitario de Diseño. If you are considering the town as a destination, you can choose according to your interests: railway history, hands-on science, or local culture and remembrance.

Railway Heritage and a Special Ride

At Ferroclub Argentino, the historic workshops in Remedios de Escalada preserve the large main hall, along with several locomotives and railway cars on display. The Coche Dinamométrico 0–153 is an exceptional one-off: it is unique in Argentina, and two examples survive worldwide. This offers two ways to explore the railway theme: the workshops and vehicles represent the breadth of the collection preserved, while the Coche Dinamométrico 0–153 stands out for the rarity of a single vehicle.

The Ferroclub Argentino's self-guided family outing includes a 300-metre ride on the 26-centimetre narrow-gauge Ferrocarril Económico Sud, which stops at two stations. This is a different way to experience the railway theme from viewing the vehicles on display: the ride described here includes a specific route and two stops. Its length, gauge and stops give it a clearly defined scope, without specifying a journey time.

Hands-On Science

The Centro Interactivo de Ciencia y Tecnología Abremate invites students, teachers and the general public to take part in hands-on activities using modules in physics, chemistry and biology. Its exhibition space includes 63 playful, interactive modules. Unlike the historic railway collection, the focus here is on scientific subjects and engaging with the modules. The three fields illustrate the centre's breadth, while its interactive approach also sets it apart from cultural venues shaped primarily by their history.

Remembrance and Local Cultural History

Paseo de la Memoria was inaugurated on 28 March 2012 in Parque Municipal Eva Perón in Remedios de Escalada. It remembers and honours those who were arrested and disappeared in Lanús during the state terrorism. Parque Municipal Eva Perón is described as the district's most important green lung. Thus, a clearly defined act of remembrance and the park as a significant green space in the district come together at this site.

The Biblioteca Popular Alberdi is also part of the town's cultural history. It was founded on 14 October 1918 and is considered a cultural landmark of Remedios de Escalada. The library and Paseo de la Memoria, inaugurated in 2012, represent different historical reference points: a long-standing cultural institution and a later-established place of remembrance. The range of cultural points of interest therefore spans different themes and periods.

A Museum with Several Roles

The Museo Universitario de Diseño (MUD) was conceived as a space for exhibitions, teaching, research and training. When it opened, it was accessible to the academic community and the general public. Unlike Abremate, with its interactive science modules, MUD combines exhibitions, teaching, research and training. If you are planning a visit, check current access arrangements in advance.
