Along the Río Areco, in historic complexes and in the rural village of Gouin, you can discover different sides of Carmen De Areco Partido. When planning your trip, it’s worth choosing your focus first: time by the river, cultural sites or a specific activity.

Nature and leisure along the Río Areco

The Balneario y Camping Municipal is located on the banks of the Río Areco. The grounds include ten hectares of natural space surrounded by green areas. Campsites and fire pits are available for camping; there are also barbecue areas and sunshades. If you’re planning a stay there, you’ll also find a shop for supplies, a restaurant and bathroom facilities with showers.

Leisure facilities include soccer and volleyball courts, saltwater pools, children’s playgrounds and an outdoor gym. This means the Balneario brings several options together in one place: you can combine time outdoors with sports, play or a visit to the pools. Which facilities matter most to your trip depends on whether you want to focus on camping, a day visit or outdoor exercise.

Activities with a focus of their own

For those interested in horseback riding, La Estrella Escuela Ecuestre offers trail rides, riding lessons and recreational riding. Aeroclub Carmen de Areco lists introductory flights, an introduction to flying and basic flight maneuvers. These are different ways to spend your time: one on horseback, the other offering an introduction to aviation. Before your trip, check with both providers to see whether your preferred activity is available.

Heritage between Carmen de Areco and Gouin

The heritage area in Carmen de Areco Partido includes Monasterio Retiro de San Pablo, Iglesia de San Patricio, the cemetery of the Passionist Congregation and Colegio San Pablo. It also encompasses a centuries-old group of trees and a lake. Another historic landmark is the complex of the retreat house, San Pablo de la Cruz Chapel and the old San Patricio Church. In 2007, it was declared a historic, architectural and landscape monument and included in the heritage of Buenos Aires Province.

The collections at Museo Histórico de Carmen de Areco also tell the story of several places in the partido: they were formed mainly through donations from residents of Carmen de Areco, Gouin and Tres Sargentos. Bar Don Tomás in Gouin offers another glimpse into rural history. The old country establishment is housed in an L-shaped building with exposed brickwork and very old windows and doors dating from the early 20th century.

In Carmen de Areco, you can also visit the image of the Virgen del Carmen. Its distinctive features include the scapulars and natural hair, which is tended each year with the help of local women. If you’re looking for an event rather than a single cultural site, Gouin hosts the Fiesta Nacional del Pastel. Its program includes artistic performances, a competition with awards for pastry-makers, a handicraft market and a food area. The program may change from one edition to the next.
