Brändö brings together a municipality-wide sculpture exhibition, nature trails, cycling routes and traces of maritime culture. When planning your trip, it helps to keep the different scales in mind: alongside individual trails, there are routes with different endpoints and lengths. The art locations are also spread across the municipality. This lets you organise your priorities for your stay and then decide what matters when searching for a holiday apartment.

Sculptures from Jurmo to Lappo

The Brändö Sculpture Trail is a permanent exhibition: its sculptures are spread across the municipality, from Jurmo in the north to Lappo in the south. The works are on display all year round. The trail is therefore not a single exhibition site, but a theme that extends across Brändö. If you would like to make art the focus of your trip, this reach is a useful point of reference when planning.

Nature trail and routes of different lengths

The Jåsholm Nature Trail is in the municipality of Brändö. It is about three kilometres long and offers views of the sea and the unspoilt archipelago forest. This nature trail adds a distinct landscape experience to the art locations and cycling routes.

One cycling route runs from the Torsholma landing stage to the village of Brändö and is about eight kilometres long. The Åland Archipelago Trail runs for 21 kilometres through the municipality, from Åva to the Torsholma ferry harbour. These figures refer to different route sections, each with its stated endpoints. On a larger scale, the Tour de Skiftet cycling route covers a total of 120 kilometres. It circles the open sea area of Skiftet and also passes through Brändö. This means you can consider an individual cycling route and a longer route in the surrounding area as different planning options.

Harbour, church and beach

More than 30 traditional red boathouses stand at the village harbour in Åva. In Djurholm, Brändö’s church has an altarpiece dating from the 15th century. These two places bring together maritime architecture and a historic example of religious art. If you would like to plan a visit to cultural landmarks as well as trails and sculptures, they offer specific points of interest in the municipality.

Brändö’s municipal beach is at the Korsklobbsrevet rest area and has a beach volleyball court. It is best to confirm details of the facilities locally. Ferries run several times a day from Vuosnainen (Osnäs) in Finland to Åva in northern Brändö. Check the latest ferry information before travelling, as the stated frequency may change.

Choosing a focus when searching for accommodation

When searching for a holiday apartment in Brändö, you can start by deciding what interests you most: should the focus be the sculpture trail, the nature trail, a cycling route or the maritime heritage? The places and routes mentioned provide specific points of reference. Also take the ferry connection to Åva into account when planning, and check the latest timetable before finalising your trip.
